About The Role
Nature Reviews Physics is an online-only journal publishing high-quality technical reference, review and commentary articles in all areas of fundamental and applied physics. Topics covered in the journal include atomic, molecular and optical physics; condensed matter and materials physics; fluid dynamics; gravitation, cosmology and astrophysics; high-energy physics (particles and fields, accelerators and beams); nonlinear dynamics; quantum mechanics, information and technologies; software and data analysis; physics and society; and the history of physics.
Nature Reviews Physics has a vacancy for an Associate or Senior Editor. We are particularly interested in applicants with a background in quantum physics, atomic physics, astrophysics or high-energy physics, but we would welcome applications from outstanding candidates in any area of physics. The Associate/Senior Editor’s role is busy and varied. You will work closely with the in-house journal team, and liaise directly with their internationally renowned contributors, requiring a proactive approach and excellent organizational skills.
The position is offered on a full-time, permanent basis. This role is based in our Shanghai, Beijing or Madrid office on a hybrid working model.
Role responsibilities:
- Commission journal content including narrative Reviews and short opinion pieces
- Work closely with authors throughout the writing and revision process by providing feedback on synopses, developmentally editing first drafts, and line-by-line editing final manuscripts before acceptance
- Organize and manage peer-review
- Liaise between authors and the internal Art editors to ensure the best visual communication of ideas in figures and other display items
- Write Research Highlights and other editorial content
- Interact extensively with the scientific community through laboratory visits and international conferences, virtually or in-person
Experience, Skills & Qualifications:
Essential
- A PhD or equivalent experience in physics, preferably in quantum physics, atomic physics, astrophysics or high-energy physics
- Demonstrable ability to edit text for sense, clarity, factual correctness and language
- Strong writing ability
- Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills
- Keen attention to detail
- Ability to absorb new areas of research, and identify new developments and research trends in fields beyond their immediate speciality
- Willingness to travel to meet scientists, discuss their research and Reviews ideas, and advocate for the journal
Desirable:
- Post-doctoral experience is a bonus
- Editorial experience is not required, although applicants with significant editorial experience are encouraged to apply and will be considered for a Senior Editor position.
