Boeing Materials, Processes & Technology team is seeking an Associate Manufacturing Research & Development Engineer to join our Manufacturing Research & Development (MR&D) Engineering team on the Space Launch System (SLS) Program in New Orleans, Louisiana.
This position is for 4th shift with a 4x10 schedule (Friday-Monday); however, this position could transition to 1st shift depending on Production priorities. Overtime may be required. Occasional travel may be required for emergent program support needs.
This is a team-based position requiring working alongside various engineering functions, production technicians, and laboratories to support production efficiencies and equipment maintenance responsibilities.
Position Responsibilities:
- Daily interaction with shop personnel
- Identifying, developing, and integrating new, effective technology including processes, hand tools, and equipment to accomplish the manufacturing build work statement (current and future)
- Applying knowledge of SLS parts, materials, and processes to assess, resolve, and optimize product and process issues throughout the SLS product lifecycle
- Innovative project management to bring projects from inception to implementation surrounding structural and/or chemical processes with metal and non-metal materials
- Utilizing CAD to design shop hardware
- Identifying and implementing safety and ergonomic improvements
- Evaluating automation, robotics, etc
- Incorporates Environmental Health & Safety, LEAN, and Quality principles into (1) materials and processes, (2) research, design and qualification, (3) work procedures and (4) labs and office areas
- Assists in implementing corrective and preventive actions
This position is expected to be 100% onsite. The selected candidate will be required to work onsite at one of the listed location options.
Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/ Experience):
- Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology (including Manufacturing Technology), Computer Science, Data Science, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry or non-US equivalent qualifications directly related to the work statement
- Flexibility in work shift assignments
- Willing to travel domestically up to 20% of the time
Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):
- Degree in mechanical, aerospace, or chemical engineering
- Experience related to aerospace fasteners, cutters, standards, and applications
- Experience in manufacturing techniques and processes: specifically, drilling, torque, calibrated tools, HVAC, fluids and/or chemical
- Experience with automation of factory processes (e.g. equipment, robotics)
- Experience with improving safety
- Experience optimizing production workflows
- Experience related to production scale-up in a manufacturing environment
- Experience with Government, Industry and Engineering Specifications
- Experience in the application of governing documents and specifications in the manufacturing environment

Summary pay range: $73,950 - $100,050
