Role
Own day-to-day delivery across data engineering, analytics and ML/AI. Accountable for delivery predictability, capacity planning and the reporting that goes to stakeholders. Line manager for the engineering team.
Responsibilities
- Delivery across all three streams — commitments, sequencing, and a clear view of where work stands
- Backlog management and sprint planning; capacity tracking against available hours
- Agile facilitation: sprint cadence, board hygiene, flow discipline
- Jira configuration and dashboards — workflows, fields, JQL, reporting built hands-on
- Monthly performance reporting: throughput, cycle time, quality, capacity, effort mix
- Line management for 15–20 engineers — performance, development, retention
- Primary escalation point for delivery issues with stakeholders
Required
- 10+ years in data engineering or analytics delivery, including 10+ managing engineers directly
- Hands-on Jira: workflows, custom fields, JQL, board and dashboard configuration. Able to build the reporting, not just request it
- Practical agile delivery — sprint mechanics, capacity planning, flow metrics
- Working knowledge of SQL, cloud data warehousing (BigQuery preferred) and pipeline development: enough to challenge an estimate and review a design
- Track record presenting delivery performance to senior stakeholders
Preferred
- Data Engineering & ML delivery exposure, from requirement through production and retraining
- Jira Automation or advanced reporting configuration
- Appetite to go deeper technically — the data and AI landscape here moves quickly
