The Role

Legend is looking for a Junior / Associate Legal Counsel to join our Legal team in London, with a particular focus on Data Privacy.

If you've gained some practical Data Protection experience and want to make it a bigger part of your career, this could be your next step.

As Legend enters its next phase of growth, backed by Genius Sports, you'll help our teams navigate everyday Privacy questions, work on international data matters and develop your expertise across different areas of Data Protection.

You'll be trusted to manage your own work, contribute ideas and make practical recommendations, with support from experienced lawyers when tackling more complex matters.

Data Privacy will be the main focus of your role, alongside opportunities to develop your broader legal experience through commercial agreements, employment matters and other Legal projects.

You'll work with colleagues across Product, Technology, Marketing, Commercial and People, helping them understand legal requirements and find practical ways forward.

Your Impact:

  • Support day-to-day Data Privacy matters, providing clear, practical advice to teams across our international business and managing matters within your experience.
  • Help maintain and improve our Privacy processes and documentation, including Records of Processing Activities (ROPA), Data Processing Agreements (DPAs), international transfers and controller/processor relationships.
  • Work alongside stakeholders on new initiatives, helping identify Data Protection considerations, research requirements and recommend practical next steps.
  • Draft and review legal documents, including Privacy-related agreements and commercial contracts, developing your confidence in negotiating terms and identifying risks.
  • Contribute to wider Legal work, supporting commercial agreements, employment matters and other projects alongside your Privacy responsibilities.
  • Spot opportunities to improve how we work, helping make our Privacy guidance, processes and ways of working clearer and more effective.

Why You'll Love This Role:

  • Build your Data Privacy expertise: take the experience you've already gained and develop it into a specialism through practical, varied work.
  • Take meaningful responsibility: manage your own matters, contribute recommendations and build confidence in your legal judgement as your experience grows.
  • Learn through real challenges: work on Privacy questions involving different markets, suppliers, products and international data flows.
  • Make an impact: help improve our Privacy processes and see how your work supports the wider business.
  • Keep your commercial skills sharp: gain exposure to contracts, employment matters and broader Legal projects alongside your Privacy work.
  • Work directly with the business: collaborate with colleagues across Product, Technology, Marketing, Commercial and People.
  • Keep developing: work with experienced lawyers who'll support your development, challenge your thinking and give you increasing responsibility as your expertise grows.

What You'll Bring:

  • A qualification as a Solicitor in England & Wales, or an equivalent recognised legal qualification, with approximately 1–3 years' post-qualification experience. You could also be an experienced Privacy Specialist looking to expand your Legal knowledge and experience.
  • Some practical experience in Data Privacy or Data Protection, gained in-house or in private practice. You might have worked on Data Processing Agreements, Privacy policies, ROPA, international transfers or related advisory matters. We don't expect you to have experience in every area.
  • Experience drafting, reviewing or advising on commercial contracts, alongside an interest in developing your broader legal skills.
  • A genuine interest in building a Data Privacy specialism and developing your understanding of how Privacy requirements apply in practice.
  • The ability to research legal questions, assess information and explain your findings clearly to colleagues who aren't lawyers.
  • A practical, commercially minded approach, with good judgement about when to make a recommendation, ask questions or seek support.
  • Curiosity, attention to detail and a willingness to learn, take feedback and improve how things are done.
  • Experience in technology, digital, SaaS, gaming or another data-rich business would be useful, but isn't essential.

Interview Process:

  • 1st Stage: Introductory conversation with our Talent Partner, exploring your career, Data Privacy experience and what you're looking for next (30 minutes via Zoom).
  • 2nd Stage: Interview with senior members of our Legal team, exploring your practical Data Privacy experience, technical foundations, commercial judgement and how you approach real-world Privacy scenarios (60 minutes via Zoom).
  • 3rd Stage: Informal coffee chat with a senior member of our Legal team in the London office (30 minutes).
  • Final Stage: Values interview with our People Partner, exploring how you collaborate, take ownership, learn and thrive in a fast-paced environment (60 minutes via Zoom).

Legend is an Equal Opportunity Employer, but that’s just the start. We believe different perspectives help us grow and achieve more. That’s why we’re dedicated to hiring and developing the most talented and diverse team- which includes individuals with different backgrounds, abilities, identities and experiences. If you require any reasonable adjustments throughout your application process, please speak to your Talent Partner or contact the team on [email protected], and we'll do all we can to support you.

Skills Required

  • Qualified Solicitor in England and Wales or equivalent
  • Approximately 1–3 years post-qualification experience gained in-house or within a commercial, technology, data privacy, or related practice
  • Practical data privacy or data protection experience
  • Knowledge of ROPA, international data transfers, controller/processor relationships, and data processing agreements
  • Interest in developing data privacy as a career specialism while building broader commercial legal experience
  • Strong commercial judgment and communication skills
  • Ability to translate complex legal requirements into clear, practical advice for non-legal stakeholders
  • Proactive and curious approach, with ability to take ownership, research unfamiliar issues, and identify when support is needed
  • Experience in technology, digital, SaaS, gaming, or another data-rich international business
