Exciting Opportunity at MSK: Associate, Investment Strategy

The Investment Management Division (IMD) is seeking an Investment Associate, and the role supports MSK’s mission to end cancer for life by managing financial resources that sustain our groundbreaking patient care, research, and education. 
 
The IMD team oversees $10 billion in long-term assets across a globally diversified portfolio, including global equities, fixed income, hedge funds, private equity, venture capital, and real assets primarily invested through external managers.  These assets are invested in a sophisticated mix of diversified strategies on a global basis, overseen by a committee of the Board and stewarded by IMD.  As an Investment Associate, you’ll operate flexibly across all asset classes and contribute to a mission-driven organization.

Role Responsibilities:

  • Monitor existing investments and develop qualitative and quantitative analytical insights on the portfolio, including investment recommendations, manager performance reviews, and thematic presentations

  • Source and drive detailed due diligence processes for external investment managers across public and private asset classes

  • Contribute to investment decisions regarding the selection, rebalancing, and termination of managers across asset classes

  • Serve as lead IMD representative to current and prospective managers as well as industry conferences, negotiate terms and conditions, and coordinate the efforts of outside service providers

  • Cultivate and maintain productive relationships with existing and prospective managers as well as vendors, legal counsel, peer investors, and other industry constituents

  • Assist with asset allocation reviews and risk management activities

  • Stay informed of market trends, new investment opportunities, asset class developments, and macroeconomic themes

  • Identify, evaluate, implement, and manage investment tools, AI resources, and best practices used in connection with portfolio and manager research and tracking

Key Qualifications:

  • At least 4 years of demonstrated professional achievement in an area relevant to investments (e.g., investment banking, consulting, asset management, alternative assets, or a related field)

  • Rigorous analytical training, including advanced research, critical reasoning, writing, data analysis, presentation, and financial modeling skills, as well as a working knowledge of multiple investment strategies

  • Technical proficiency of Excel and PowerPoint; openness to adopting new tools and methodologies

  • Familiarity with AI tools for research and data synthesis, with the ability to apply appropriate judgement in validating outputs and conclusions

  • A base-level understanding of business, legal, and accounting issues involved in the evaluation of alternative investments and knowledge and/or experience in capital markets also required

Core Skills:

  • Ability to lead and mentor Investment Analysts and Interns within IMD

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to prepare and deliver reports and presentations to both internal and external stakeholders

  • Proven ability to manage and prioritize multiple investment-related projects simultaneously

  • Strong teamwork skills with the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams and external partners

  • High level of accuracy and attention to detail in all aspects of investment analysis and reporting. Clear and effective written and verbal communication skills with strong attention to detail; willingness to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment to achieve shared goals

  • An ability to thrive in an entrepreneurial team environment, a proven ability to work independently and under pressure, a high degree of judgment, intellectual curiosity, and integrity

Additional Information:

  • Work Schedule: Hybrid; 3x a week on site with additional flexibility as needed

  • Location: 633 Third Avenue, NYC. Some domestic and/or international travel may be required (10-20%)

Pay Range: $152,400.00 - $251,600.00
