The Role

We are seeking an Associate Editor who is passionate about journalism and dedicated to delivering high-quality news coverage to join our team! The Associate Editor is responsible for generating daily news coverage to support the goals and objectives for SeafoodSource.com. In addition, this position is responsible for on-time delivery of daily and weekly newsletters, and maintaining best practices for online content posting and SEO. The Associate Editor works closely with the Editor and Executive Editor in a fast-paced working environment, vetting relevant news stories pertaining to the industry and publishing accurate reports in a timely manner. Responsibilities also include attending and reporting from industry events, conferences, and expos, and completing special projects on an ad-hoc basis.

Essential Functions / Key Responsibilities:

• Create original news articles and other content on deadline for SeafoodSource.com and the SeafoodSource e-newsletter, while upholding the highest journalism standards.• Oversee the production of daily and weekly e-newsletters using Marketo.• Create editorial content for SeafoodSource's social media accounts with an eye to building and maintaining an online audience and driving traffic to SeafoodSource.com.• Contribute to special projects including podcasts, show guides, and larger special reports. • Attend industry events, with some travel required.• Develop expertise in the sector through independent research, networking, and staying abreast of industry news.• Ability to shoot photos and video.• Ability to work independently and, occasionally, remotely.

Skills & Qualifications:

• 1-3 years work experience in the field of journalism, English, communications, or related field.• Experience writing for a journalistic enterprise, and particularly for a B2B publication, is highly preferred.• Must be comfortable writing and editing using Associated Press style. • Familiarity using web-based content management systems and with promoting content across social media platforms preferred. • Experience using data and web analytics to understand the behavior and preferences of readership a plus. • Experience with the Microsoft Office suite, Photoshop, iMovie or other equivalent video-editing software, and with the PACER court-filing system all preferred.• Passionate about working as a full-time reporter covering a dynamic and global industry. • Must be highly organized and deadline driven, with the ability to handle multiple tasks at once with short turnaround time. • Enthusiasm to network and build contacts within the industry is vital to succeeding in this position. • Ability to thrive in a small, dedicated team environment where collaboration drives both daily news and long-term projects.

Work Environment: Diversified Communications offers the flexibility to work remotely and enjoy a hybrid schedule, working in the office 2 days per week. While this position reports into our office located in Portland, Maine, we are open to considering fully remote applicants.
