The Role

The Associate Director of Revenue Accounting holds overall financial responsibility for revenue management, including revenue recognition and receivables management. This position is an essential part of the accounting team and plays a critical role in overseeing the financial reporting process and internal controls related to revenue and accounts receivable. Ultimately responsible for the order-to-cash business process, this role directly reports to the Corporate Controller.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Revenue Management: Oversee revenue recognition and receivables management functions, including credit monitoring, billing, collections, and revenue recognition.
  • Subject Matter Expert: Serve as the primary subject matter expert regarding revenue transactions and related contract analysis.
  • Financial Reporting: Ensure accurate and timely financial reporting and maintain strong internal controls over revenue and accounts receivable.
  • Interface: Act as the primary liaison with Finance, external auditors, and senior leadership on all revenue-related matters.
  • Monthly Close: Manage the monthly close process for all revenue-related activities.
  • Management Review: Review reconciliation of revenue transactions to the general ledger, timely review billing for services and materials, and timely review of discounts, promotions, adjustments, write-offs, refunds, and credits.
  • Internal Controls: Design and maintain an effective internal control environment over the order-to-cash cycle, including reporting and accounting estimates. Being the control owners for key internal controls for revenue recognition and accounts receivable.
  • Analysis Support: Support business and finance teams in the analysis of revenue-related transactions and variances to budget and period-over-period.
  • System Leadership: Serve as the business owner of revenue-related systems, providing leadership and strategic guidance for system upgrades, initiatives, and regulatory and tax compliance needs.
  • Technical Accounting: Address technical accounting matters associated with material or non-standard contracts and settlements, preparing/reviewing supporting memos with recommended accounting treatment.
  • Team Development: Develop and retain a high-performing team that employs best-in-class practices to support and drive high levels of internal and external customer satisfaction. Continuously raise the bar and focus on team development.
  • Policy Review and Maintenance: Review and maintain existing revenue recognition policies to ensure they are up-to-date and effective. Develop and maintain a collection policy, which is currently missing.
  • SOP Development: Develop and document Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) for the order-to-cash process. Establish and continuously improve SOPs for billings and collections.
  • Credit Management: Monitor the credit of key customers and manage customer relationships from a collection and billing standpoint.

Qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in finance or accounting required. CPA preferred.
  • Experience: 10+ years of experience in revenue accounting, credit, and or collections. 5+ years of progressive management and leadership experience.
  • Industry Experience: Experience in the life science industry is highly preferred.
  • Technical Skills: Solid experience with ERP systems (SAP preferred) as well as Microsoft Dynamics/GP.
  • Regulatory Knowledge: Robust understanding of revenue recognition standards (ASC 606) and USGAAP

Salary Range: $136,000 – $187,000

Salary range provided per current averages and expectations. The salary and job title for this opening will be based on the selected candidate’s qualifications and experience and may be outside this range.
