The Position
The Associate Director of Medical Data Strategy and Analytics plays a critical role in leading the strategic planning and execution of data analytics initiatives within the US Medical Affairs organization.
This individual is responsible for leading the development and implementation of data visualization tools to facilitate data-informed decision-making across the Medical Affairs business units. Additionally, they will create new measurement frameworks, standardize best practices and cultivate innovative analytics capabilities for the department.
This leader will bring their extensive knowledge of the digital environment coupled with data science expertise to provide insights into the effectiveness & efficiency of our Medical Affairs investments.
This role requires close collaboration with Medical Affairs business unit leads, cross-functional CMR colleagues, IT partners and vendors to understand specific data requirements and ensure alignment with the company's overarching data & analytics ecosystem.
Relationships
This position reports to the Director, Medical Omnichannel Technology Solutions and is part of the Medical Modernization and Strategic Partner Engagements Team.
Key internal NNI relationships include Medical Affairs therapy areas, other Clinical, Medical, Regulatory (CMR) functions, Commercial systems leads, Data Enterprise & Advanced Analytics teams and IT partners.
External relationships include working with vendors, and agencies.
Essential Functions
- Define and own the standard of excellence for data science and analytics capabilities across Medical Affairs units in NNI
- Support refinement of key standard metrics/KPIs to quantify and communicate performance and effectiveness of medical activities, in alignment with the strategies and action plans of the business units
- Develop data visualization tools to facilitate engagement planning, data sharing, and accurate reporting & auditing
- Inspire solutions, action, and execution to enable data-driven decision-making by leveraging data, advanced analytics, and AI to improve operational efficiency
- Shape medical data strategies by keeping up to date with external trends and technologies as well as evaluating emerging technologies, tools, and methodologies that enhance capabilities for Medical Affairs
- Effectively communicate and deliver relevant and clear data outputs and results to various audiences, including senior leadership and cross-functional partners
- Establish and enforce governance procedures to ensure Medical Affairs data excellence and accountability internally and with external partners
- Collaborate with multiple cross-functional teams and serve as the bridge between Medical Affairs teams, IT, Commercial operations & analytics, vendors, etc to drive data & analytics initiatives
Physical Requirements
0-10% overnight travel required.
Qualifications
- A Bachelor's degree required; Masters preferred
- 8+ years of relevant work experience in the pharmaceutical industry within the area of Medical Affairs, Digital Transformation, and/or Medical Data Management, demonstrating a steady career progression with increasing roles of responsibility required
- 5+ years of combined experience in digital analytics, database structures and data management, preferably within the Medical Affairs space
- Excellent strategic planning skills with the ability to translate plans into tactics and operationalize for execution
- Expertise with data visualization tools and techniques (e.g., Qlik Sense, Tableau, Power BI, OBIEE)
- Proven knowledge of Software tracking packages, knowledge of Veeva CRM a plus
- Computer programming experience preferred (inparticular SQL)
- Experience synthesizing information to develop recommendations and communicate clearly to influence and negotiate based on recommendations
- Strong business acumen and the ability to understand and address complex business problems through data
- Must be able to deliver short term results while developing capabilities for future needs & requirements
- Change management skills to foster a culture of data-driven decision-making within complex business operations
- Strong written, oral, and presentation skills with the ability to communicate complex technical and data concepts to cross-functional teams and senior business leaders
- Ability to quickly build rapport and credibility with key internal and external stakeholders through strong interpersonal skills; experience working with business intelligence and IT teams preferred
