The Position
This role is responsible for leading the annual business planning process in accordance with organization oversight of functional deliverables and timelines. Oversees the Market Access and Public Affairs (MAPA) Planning and Operations Team, which is responsible for supporting the execution of all department contracts, and the tracking/reporting of corresponding budget spend throughout the year. Additionally, this individual ensures the accurate and timely processing of all charitable grants for the CSSI function within Public Affairs.
Relationships
Reports directly to the Sr. Director, Planning, Execution & Operations (PE&O). Responsible for overseeing the MAPA Planning and Operations Team, which is responsible for leading business planning, contract execution and budget management for the entire department, and timely/accurate processing of charitable grants. Works closely with all MAPA Teams, Finance, Legal, Compliance, Procurement, Commercial Strategy and Marketing, Medical, and other relevant stakeholders.
Essential Functions
- Business planning:
- Responsible for leading the business planning process within MAPA, and corresponding contract and budget management functions associated with managing the department's annual anchor budget
- Works closely with MAPA functional leads to coordinate the development of MAPA's annual therapy area strategies, tactics and resource plans
- Identifies and implements specific processes to help manage the business planning process to drive capability optimization and operational efficiency with minimal disruption to the team
- Provides critical thinking and influence by helping to link strategic priorities to the team's business plans
- Works cross-functionally with OneImpact Teams and Planning Board to understand and communicate critical deadlines and deliverables to the MAPA Team
- Actively maintains all planning templates either mandated by OneImpact Teams, Finance or created internally to support the business planning process
- Consults leadership on long-term planning and future capabilities in order to develop/track the progress of MAPA's workforce plan
- Works closely with HR and Finance to maintain MAPA's FTE tracker with the latest status of open headcount by function
- Contracts & budgets:
- Partners with MAPA functional leads to understand business objectives, timelines and deliverables necessary to ensure the timely and accurate processing of contracts, POs, accruals, etc.
- Oversees the tracking and reporting of all AB and RE budget cycles to Finance; provides regularly updates to leadership on the progress of spend throughout the year; facilitates functional requests for additional resources via the quarterly reallocation
- Liasions with the business, legal, compliance and procurement to navigate challenging contractual issues
- Collaborates closely with the Sr. Associate CSSI to ensure the timely and accurate processing of all charitable grants
- General:
- People Manager for the MAPA Planning and Operations Team
- Other:
- Manages critical projects for the Sr. Director, PE&O to drive operational efficiencies and systems/process development and manage and lead cross-functional groups to achieve pre-defined KPIs
- Develops and prepares executive level content for the Sr. Director, PE&O to aid in Departmental projects and output, and LT and ET content
Physical Requirements
5 - 10% overnight travel required
Development of People
Ensure that reporting personnel have individual development plans (IDP), with annual goals and measurements that are consistent with the priorities of the business, and that interim reviews are held so that their work is focused on those priorities, and they understand their level of accountability for results and the measurement process.
Ensure that the IDP forms include completed learning and aspiration plans and are in place for all reporting personnel to enable the achievement of goals and capability to assume increased levels of responsibility.
Manage the application and communication of all Novo Nordisk policies, procedures, and Novo Nordisk Way.
Qualifications
- A Bachelor's degree required. Master's degree preferred
- 9+ years progressively relevant business experience in areas such as account management, sales, marketing, or, finance, or market access, preferably in the pharmaceutical industry. Advanced degree may be substituted for 2 years' experience
- Previous experience as a people manager in a pharmaceutical setting preferred
- A minimum of 3 years' experience in a budget management or planning role required
- Extensive experience working through the NNI contracting processes is preferred
- Cross-functional experience in multiple areas is strongly preferred
- Relevant Novo Nordisk experience may be substituted where appropriate
- Leadership experience in strategic projects that were adopted and executed on is strongly preferred
