The Role: 

We are seeking an experienced Tax Associate Director (or Director) to lead tax matters across our UK, EMEA, and APAC operations. Based out of our London office in the United Kingdom, this is a high-impact individual contributor role within a fast-growing fintech business and will report locally to the UK Finance Director. The individual will act as a strategic leader responsible for managing corporate tax compliance and reporting, transfer pricing, planning and advisory and risk management across the UK, EU and APAC regions to strengthen the overall global tax and, more broadly, finance functions for the Company and support the needs of a rapidly growing organization.   

We are looking for someone who is excited to join a fast-paced organization and contribute to building a best-in-class Tax function as the Company continues to scale across businesses and geographies.  The team is lean and the scope of the role is broad and so the position offers significant opportunities for leadership and growth.  You will serve as the primary tax authority for a complex, multi-jurisdictional enterprise, advising senior business leaders, managing external advisors, and partnering with financial, legal, HR, and product teams to ensure tax efficiency, compliance and strategic alignment.  

Responsibilities: 

Tax compliance and reporting: 

  • Manage end-to-end tax compliance cycle including, but not limited to, the preparation and/or review and filing of corporate income tax returns, VAT/GST and/or withholding taxes using local external advisors, where appropriate.
  • Oversee the calculation and review of current and deferred tax provisions under IFRS / US GAAP for regional entities.
  • Ensure timely and accurate tax disclosures in statutory financial statements.  

Tax planning and advisory: 

  • Collaborate with Head of Tax on global tax strategy ensuring regional alignment with overall group-wide objectives. 
  • Assist with development and implementation of tax planning initiatives, identifying opportunities to optimize effective tax rate and maximize efficiency and tax savings.
  • Assist with M&A tax due diligence and post-acquisition tax integration and legal entity rationalization workstreams, including holding structures and IP ownership.
  • Act as internal tax advisor for various business units and stakeholders, including, but not limited to, finance, legal, operations and HR.
  • Monitor legislative and regulatory developments in UK, EMEA, and APAC jurisdictions (including Pillar Two / BEPS) and assess impact on the business.  

Tax Risk Management: 

  • Support global transfer pricing policies, including local file requirements and ensuring intercompany agreements are properly documented.
  • Identify and assess issues and tax implications across UK, EMEA and APAC subsidiaries; maintain robust internal controls are in place to ensure compliance and mitigate tax risk.  
  • Manage relationship with tax authorities (i.e., HMRC) and assist with support for tax controversy and audits/examinations. 

Other: 

  • Assist with the design and implementation of technology automation initiatives with respect to financial reporting and tax compliance.
  • Assist in operational aspects of the tax function to support tax needs. Gain a deep understanding of the company’s operations, businesses and develop a strong network beyond the tax department.
  • Assist with special projects and initiatives, as necessary, including systems implementation and automation processes.
  • Support other tax workstreams, if needed (e.g., FATCA/CRS). 

Skills & Attributes: 

  • Significant hands-on tax experience and in-depth understanding of UK, EMEA and Asia corporate tax gained in-house at a multinational company.  
  • Exceptional technical knowledge of international tax principles  
  • ACA, CTA, or equivalent professional qualification preferred (or international equivalent).
  • Deep expertise in UK corporate tax is essential; strong knowledge of EMEA and APAC tax regimes strongly preferred.
  • Proven track record managing transfer pricing frameworks in a multi-jurisdictional setting
  • Experience supporting new business development and M&A transactions, including due diligence, structuring and integration.  
  • Background in financial services and/or fintech and understanding of the securities industry and broker-dealer businesses including understanding of financial products is highly desired
  • Strong project management, planning, and organizational skills including the ability to prioritize multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced environment.  
  • Self-starter with the ability to work well independently as well as within a team environment with excellent interpersonal skills.   
  • Collaborative working style with cross functional/business segment teams across geographies.
