Job Description SummaryOrganization's Summary Statement:
The Division of Student Affairs (DSA) at the University of Maryland seeks a dynamic and creative Associate Director of Development to cultivate and solicit individual donors for DSA initiatives and priorities. Reporting to the Division’s Director of Development, the candidate will apply knowledge and understanding of the University of Maryland and DSA, its programs, needs and priorities to the development process. The Associate Director will represent the Division of Student Affairs to internal and external audiences while working with members of the university community to advance our mission.
Primary Responsibilities:
The Associate Director of Development will manage a portfolio of approximately 80 major gift prospects with the objective of discovering, qualifying, cultivating, soliciting, closing, and stewarding major gifts from $50,000 - $1M+. This development professional is expected to quickly gain and present an expansive knowledge of the Division of Student Affairs and the University of Maryland. The Associate Director will develop and implement major gift strategies in consultation with the Director of Development for Student Affairs, as well as other Division of Student Affairs and University Relations colleagues. The Associate Director will also liaise with the Assistant Vice President for Engagement within the Division of Student Affairs.
Must be able to travel up to 50%. Occasional work on evenings and weekends is required.
Preferences: Development experience within a university setting is preferred. Experience in volunteer management and proposal writing is desired.
Physical Demands: Must be able to walk to departments on campus.

Minimum Qualifications

Education: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.

Experience: Five (5) years of professional development, fundraising or external relations experience.

Other: The position may or may not involve supervisory responsibilities.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES:

Skill in problem solving and strategic planning.

Skill in oral and written communication.

Skill in the use of Microsoft Office and Google Suite products.

Ability to develop and administer new policies and procedures.

Ability to interpret and apply policies, procedures, regulations, and laws.

Ability to interact with donors and senior-level executives and administrators required.

Ability to handle multiple tasks and strong adherence to deadlines required.

Additional Job Details

Preferences: Development experience within a university setting is preferred. Volunteer management and proposal writing experience is desired.
