This role will work within our innovative Data & Technology group that continues to evolve to meet business needs, fuel Parexel's growth and enable improved support for stakeholders, including customers and ultimately patients, who will benefit from Parexel's integrated processes and systems.
This role can be based in either Poland, Romania, Hungary, Serbia or Lithuania and can be fully home based and remote working anywhere in any of these countries.
As the Associate Director, Data Engineering you will be a hands-on leader responsible for enabling Parexel’s data movement within the Enterprise Data Lake and delivering standardized operational data products across clinical, safety, and corporate domains.
You will also contribute to data lake strategy, engineering, and operations, as well as enterprise integration capabilities and the data preparation required to power analytics, AI enablement, and sponsor data delivery.
You will partner with Data and Technology, the Data and Analytics CoE, and the business to ensure trusted, high-quality, and well-governed data, consistent definitions, and reliable data movement across the enterprise.
Accountability:
Data Lake Engineering
Contribute to the strategy, design, and roadmap for the lake house, based on a medallion architecture that supports reporting and analytics aligned to operational, clinical, financial, and safety needs.
Lead engineering activities across data ingestion, transformation, storage, and optimization within the Enterprise Data Lake.
Oversee the performance, quality, reliability, security, and lifecycle management of data in the lake environment.
Ensure scalable engineering pipelines across data domains (for example, clinical, safety, financial, HR, and scientific) that align with governance requirements
Delivery Excellence & Cross-Functional Leadership
Serve as a subject matter expert in data delivery, aligning data products and services with organizational priorities.
Lead cross-functional prioritization and delivery processes to ensure cohesive, timely outcomes.
Champion transparency and communication of data technology roadmaps.
Team Leadership & Organizational Development
Build, mentor, and lead global data engineering teams.
Champion capability development in cloud engineering, Databricks, CI/CD, SQL, and Python.
Promote a culture of innovation, operational rigor, and customer-focused delivery.
Education:
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field is required or equivalent data engineering leadership experience.
Master’s degree preferred.
Skills:
Extensive experience implementing and supporting enterprise data initiatives on cloud platforms.
Proficiency in modern data management and data-sharing tools, programming languages, relational databases, data transformation, and development frameworks.
Experience with GxP regulations in a life sciences environment is highly desirable.
Demonstrated expertise in data and cloud platforms, particularly Azure Databricks.
Deep understanding of architectural best practices and application design and estimation processes.
Significant experience with medallion architecture-based data lake implementations; Power BI experience is preferred.
Advanced level in SQL querying and query tuning is mandatory.
Thorough knowledge of application architectures and enterprise application ecosystems.
Knowledge and Experience:
Strong and vast IT experience developing, implementing, and maintaining large-scale enterprise integration services and platforms across multiple hardware and software environments, with substantial expertise in emerging computing architectures.
Advanced level experience leading teams in data delivery management and execution, including major projects in data management, data integration, and analytics.
Clinical IT experience is preferred.
Strong in-depth leadership or line management experience, including:
Successfully developing and implementing applications in new computing architecture environments using innovative technologies.
Managing technical personnel across multiple project lifecycle phases; cross-functional experience is highly desirable.
Managing financial resources to achieve goals across multiple projects.
Developing efficient and effective solutions to complex business challenges.
