Associate Director of Creative Development - Video Strategy
Overview of the role
Dotdash Meredith is seeking an Associate Director of Creative Development to join its central Video Strategy team. Reporting to the Sr. Director of Creative Development, this YouTube-first creative will be highly influential, with a proven track record of ideating and creating hit celebrity and non-celebrity content. This position is based in New York City.
The Associate Director will be responsible for helping shape and execute a YouTube-first content slate across all DDM brands, including People, Entertainment Weekly, InStyle, and Allrecipes. They should be able to pitch and produce new concepts in an entrepreneurial environment, seeing these projects through from end to end. This individual must display an ‘all hands on deck’ and ‘can-do’ attitude. They are the driving force behind their shoots and a steward of the brands.
Day-to-day responsibilities
Creative Development: 40%
Work closely with the Sr. Director on ideating, developing, and executing unique, innovative formats and concepts for video on YouTube across all DDM brands
Develop systems and documentation to maintain series quality from pilot phase to episodic series production
Rigorously research lanes, topics, and talent for established or potential series
Lead creative brainstorming sessions
Must be accountable for their own projects, overseeing the end-to-end workflow from pre-production to post-production, and working closely with other team resources.
Contribute to a positive, success-oriented environment where innovation and creativity are critical
Collaborate with broader video and cross-brand editorial teams to create premium YouTube content
Must have an understanding of business and brand priorities and tracking to KPIs
YouTube Execution: 60%
Execute YT-first formats with a wide range of on-camera talent, from A-list celebrities to established academics or other people of interest.
Serve as logistics lead for video shoots, ranging from studio interviews and press junkets to field shoots on location
Serve as liaison between internal teams and outside talent representatives
Manage budgets, source props, and coordinate equipment rentals as needed per project
Book and coordinate crews
Act as point-person for video logistic-related communication between creative teams, editorial teams, and other internal stakeholders
Assist in content calendar planning, logistics, expenses
Must-haves
Extensive and proven experience in executing YouTube-first creative video concepts under pressure
5+ years of experience in producing a high frequency of videos for a major media company/brand or digital-first publisher
Experience working with high-end celebrity talent
Must foster a collaborative and positive environment, working to bring out the best in everyone around them
This individual must be comfortable and experienced in tracking high-level content success, including being able to evaluate performance using tools such as YT Analytics and Tubular
Able to manage multiple projects simultaneously
Is an active consumer of Internet video, is aware of cultural trends and how they can influence the development of new formats
Passionate, curious, and willing to collaborate, test, and learn
The ideal candidate is curious about pushing the boundaries of broadly established video content and is eager to experiment in production.
