About the job:
The Associate, Data Scientist will be a member of the Data Science team sitting within the Credit department. This role involves combining data from multiple sources using SQL and Python. This person will conduct compressive data quality checks, detailed comprehensive exploratory analysis, and build machine learning models for credit risk and marketing. The ability to understand algorithms, as well as bias variance tradeoff and interpretability of the models, is critical in this role.

- Create advanced data models and high-quality analysis for all aspects of our business to discover insights, drive outcomes, actionable recommendations and innovation to guide strategic decisions
- Serve as a key stakeholder or subject matter expert in OppFi’s modeling team to support the use of advanced analytics and promote best practices
- Build, develop and maintain statistic models, model tracking dashboards and performance metrics that support and inform key business decisions
- Improve upon existing methodologies by developing new data sources, testing model enhancements, and fine-tuning model parameters
- Communicate results and business impacts of insight initiatives to stakeholders within and outside of the Division.
What you will bring to the team:
- BS or MS in data science, advanced analytics or quantitative discipline such as Statistics, Math or Engineering, or equivalent industry experience.
- BS and 1-3 years of experience OR MS and 1-2 years of experience: with data science and advanced analytics with proven record for delivery of data-driven insights to inform strategic decision making
- Experience with machine learning/cloud-based libraries, programming languages and statistical packages such as SQL, R, Python, tools such as Data Robot
- Experience and knowledge of statistical modeling techniques: GLM multiple regression, logistic regression, boating algorithms, variable selection, etc.
- Experience in building, evaluating and interpreting advance machine learning models
- Understanding of and experience using analytical concepts and statistical techniques: hypothesis development, designing tests/experiments
- Excellent communication, collaboration and delegation skills with demonstrated ability with both technical and non-technical stakeholders
- The ability to apply data science skills to independently solve business problems

Total Rewards and Benefits:
The starting base salary for this position is $71,200 per year. The actual offer, reflecting the total compensation package and benefits, will be at the company’s sole discretion and determined by a myriad of factors including, but not limited to, years of experience, depth of experience, and other relevant business considerations. The total compensation package includes eligibility and potential for performance-based bonuses as well as equity grants dependent upon the role and job level.
