Associate Counsel, PIP - Hudson/Essex/Passaic, NJ

GEICO is looking to hire an Associate Counsel, Staff Counsel PIP to defend lawsuits filed in New Jersey courts and other first party insurance defense. The position is with GEICO Staff Counsel covering the Greater New Jersey region.

Primary Position Objective:

Under general supervision, DEFENDS PIP lawsuits and arbitrations commenced against GEICO.

Essential Functions:

CONDUCTS depositions/examinations before trial and examinations under oath based on jurisdiction.

DEFENDS by trial, arbitration, or mediation all matters assigned, as applicable.

RESEARCHES laws and PREPARES legal briefs, opinions, and memoranda.

RENDERS opinions on defenses, likelihood of success, fee schedule issues, etc.

MEETS deadlines, statutory or otherwise.

ADHERES to the GEICO Code of Conduct, company policies and operating principles.

MEETS attendance standard of the business location, to perform necessary job functions and to facilitate interaction with management and co-workers.

• Must be able to follow complex instructions, resolve conflicts or facilitate conflict resolution, and have strong organization/priority setting and multi-tasking skills.
• Must be able to learn and apply large amounts of technical and procedural information.
• Must demonstrate successful performance in handling primary responsibility for PIP cases of moderate severity and complexity.
• Must have the following education and experience:
  • Must be licensed in good standing to practice law in applicable jurisdictions, and meet and maintain licensing requirements including mandatory Continuing Legal Education (CLE) requirements where applicable.
  • Must have a minimum of two years of litigation experience, including insurance defense or personal injury.

Annual Salary

$116,000.00 - $182,000.00

The above annual salary range is a general guideline. Multiple factors are taken into consideration to arrive at the final hourly rate/ annual salary to be offered to the selected candidate. Factors include, but are not limited to, the scope and responsibilities of the role, the selected candidate’s work experience, education and training, the work location as well as market and business considerations.
