Primary Responsibilities

The successful candidate will:

  • Teach undergraduate courses in English, which may include Composition I & II, Introduction to Literature, American Literature, British Literature, World Literature, Creative Writing, and/or upper-level courses aligned with the candidate's area of specialization
  • Guide students in developing strong writing skills, critical reading abilities, and literary analysis techniques
  • Provide academic mentoring and professional guidance to support student development as effective communicators and critical thinkers
  • Collaborate with colleagues on curriculum development, assessment practices, and continuous program improvement
  • Actively participate in departmental, college, and university service activities
  • Engage in ongoing scholarship and professional development to maintain disciplinary currency and pedagogical effectiveness
  • Report to the Department Chair or designated administrator and contribute to departmental goals
Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • Master's degree in English, Literature, Creative Writing, Rhetoric and Composition, or closely related field from a regionally accredited institution
  • Demonstrated ability or strong potential to deliver effective, student-centered instruction in writing and literature
  • Excellent communication skills and commitment to creating an inclusive, supportive learning environment
  • Strong ability to teach composition and provide constructive feedback on student writing
  • Willingness to engage collaboratively in curriculum review and departmental initiatives

Preferred Qualifications

  • Terminal degree (Ph.D. or MFA) in English, Literature, Creative Writing, or related discipline
  • Previous college or university teaching experience, particularly at the undergraduate level
  • Experience with process-based writing instruction, diverse literary traditions, and innovative pedagogical approaches
  • Record of scholarly activity, creative work, publication, or relevant professional experience
  • Ability to teach across multiple genres, periods, or areas within English studies
