Assistant Greenkeeper

Get Golfing CIO is a charity that owns and operates a growing network of golf courses across the country. Our aim is to make golf welcoming, accessible and enjoyable for everyone. Hampton Court Palace Golf Club is one of the most historic and beautiful settings for golf in the UK.

The course sits within Home Park, part of the Historic Royal Palaces estate, next to Hampton Court Palace itself. It is an inland links style course with a heritage inspired by the great Willie Park Jr. It is set among ancient trees, open parkland and a resident herd of deer. Much of the landscape is a Natural England Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI). That means our greenkeeping team looks after far more than a golf course. They care for a protected historic landscape and its wildlife, and give golfers a first class playing experience.

This is an exciting time to join us. We are carrying out a major course improvement programme that includes heritage style bunker renovations and a new fairway irrigation system.

The Role

As an Assistant Greenkeeper, you will be a key part of the team that maintains and presents the golf course and its surrounding landscape to a high standard. You will learn from an experienced course team, take part in renovation projects and help protect one of the most special golfing environments in the country.

1.           Level 2 in Sports Turf Management, or working towards it.

2.           Experience in golf course maintenance or a similar turf or grounds role is preferred.

3.           Knowledge of turf care and environmentally responsible practices.

4.           Strong attention to detail and the ability to follow instructions.

5.           Good communication and teamwork skills.

6.           A passion for golf and the outdoors, and a commitment to high standards.

7.           The ability to work efficiently and safely, often early in the morning and in all weathers.

8.           Weekend and Bank Holiday availability on a rota basis.

9.           A full UK driving licence is desirable.

Responsibilities

1.           Maintain greens, tees, fairways and surrounds, including mowing, rolling, watering and daily course set up.

2.           Cut new holes, move tee markers and keep greens in excellent condition.

3.           Renovate, rake and maintain bunkers, including the heritage style bunker programme.

4.           Repair damage caused by golfers and wildlife, especially deer and badgers, quickly and to a high standard.

5.           Care for the wider landscape in line with SSSI and Historic Royal Palaces guidelines.

6.           Treat and control weeds, pests and disease using sustainable, environmentally responsible methods where permitted.

7.           Help with drainage work and apply irrigation as needed, including on the new fairway irrigation system.

8.           Operate, clean and carry out basic maintenance on machinery and tools safely.

9.           Support construction and renovation projects across the course and driving range.

10.        Be friendly and helpful to members and visitors, and represent the club professionally.
