Work Arrangement
This role is categorized as hybrid. This means the successful candidate is expected to report to Detroit Renaissance Center, Detroit MI, three times per week, at minimum.
The Role
The Assistant Director of Global Tax Accounting is responsible for managing processes necessary to ensure GM's income taxes are properly accounted for pursuant to ASC 740 and appropriately reported in its SEC filings, including both U.S. and Non-U.S. local tax impacts of foreign business activity. This person provides timely and accurate information and advice on income tax accounting results and expectations to key Corporate and regional GM leaders and is responsible for administering SOX compliance with respect to the financial reporting of taxes. The Assistant Director - Global Tax Accounting reports directly to the Director - Global Tax Reporting.
What You'll Do
- US GAAP monthly, quarterly and annual tax accounting processes for the U.S. and non-U.S. regions, including deferred/current tax calculation, cash tax forecast, effective tax rate forecast, valuation allowance analysis, and uncertain tax positions and tax contingencies
- Manage quarterly U.S. GAAP reporting of global tax accounting results
- Resolve unique tax accounting issues (e.g. M&A, divestiture) and drive leading practices
- Technical accounting analysis of legislative developments
- Team leadership and development
Additional Description
Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications)
- Bachelors degree in a related field
- CPA with 10+ years of relevant large public accounting firm or private industry experience.
- Strong tax technical skills and understanding of financial and tax reporting requirements
- Hands-on experience with the preparation and review of U.S. GAAP income tax provisions including ASC 740, APB 23, ASC 740-10-25 (Fin 48) tax contingency accounting, and other related accounting pronouncements
- Ability to work effectively with Tax, Finance, Legal and other departments in the U.S. and other countries
- A company vehicle will be provided for this role with successful completion of a Motor Vehicle Report review.
What Will Give You A Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications)
- Experience with a U.S. based multinational and Masters in Tax preferred.
- Experience successfully leading and managing a team of tax professionals
- Systems experience with tax solutions products (OneSource) and ERP ledgering systems (SAP software)
