The Altamont School seeks an experienced Assistant Director of Finance to join their accounting team. The Assistant Director of Finance is responsible for preparing financial reports, performing account reconciliations, maintaining the general ledger, preparing month-end close procedures, assisting with audit preparations, managing the school’s tuition management system, supervising accounts payable and processing payroll. This position will combine excellent analytical skills with a thorough knowledge of accounting principles to analyze financial reports and forecasts.
Essential Functions

Manages and assists with daily accounting processes, including cash receiving/depositing, general ledger, and accounts payable, in accordance with generally accepted accounting procedures (GAAP).

Reconciles all balance sheet general ledger accounts monthly.

Prepares timely and complete financial statements and reports.

Manages and reconciles billing through FACTS Management Company for student tuition, scholarships, and other miscellaneous billings.

Provides information to parents on a routine basis regarding individual accounts, financial obligations to the school, financial policies, tuition refunds and delinquent accounts.

Prepare monthly analysis of delinquent accounts receivable and collection status reports to the CFO.

Plays an integral role in the annual audit by providing reconciliations, reports and other assistance as needed.

Works with the accounting firm that prepares the annual 990 and provides necessary information for completion.

Coordinates with the Advancement Office to ensure gifts are posted correctly.

Conducts routine meetings with the Advancement Office.

Supervises the Business Office Associate and backs this position, as needed.

Prepares, posts, and reconciles all investment activities and related accounting entries.

Ensures transfers to and from US Trust separate accounts are timely.

Coordinates with the CFO for fixed asset additions, disposals, and depreciation in Blackbaud.

Meets with department heads to project future budget needs.

Provide monthly analysis of budget to actual variances by department to the CFO.

Monitor departmental budgets and amounts held on behalf of others.

Enter data into NAIS, NBOA and other surveys as identified prior to deadlines.

Ensures accurate and timely distribution of 1099s to required recipients and state and federal agencies.

Reviews monthly, quarterly and annual tax reports , including W2s, for accuracy.

Remit all retirement contributions timely on a bi-weekly and monthly basis.

Process payroll on a monthly and bi-weekly basis.

Ensures Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) are completed for the Business Office.

Qualifications
Required Education and Experience

Bachelor's degree in accounting required.

8+ years of accounting experience.
-
Non-profit experience required.

3+ years supervisory experience required.

Strong financial analysis skills.

Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.

Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly with Excel.

Experience with Blackbaud and FACTS software, preferred.
