JOB SUMMARY:
The Assistant Director of Benefits Administration supports the strategic planning, administration, and compliance of the organization's employee benefits programs. This position reports to the Senior Director of Benefits and Operations and assists in managing health and welfare plans, retirement programs, leave administration, wellness initiatives, and benefits communications while ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local regulations.
 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assist in planning, implementing, and administering employee benefits programs, including medical, dental, vision, life, disability, retirement, and voluntary benefits.

  • Ensure benefits programs comply with applicable laws and regulations, including ERISA, ACA, COBRA, HIPAA, FMLA, and other federal and state requirements.

  • Reviews Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) change reports and makes any necessary adjustments to insure employees' premiums for benefits are correct.

  • Responsible for day-to-day benefits administration, enrollment, eligibility, life event changes, and terminations.

  • Manage relationships with insurance carriers, third-party administrators, brokers, and other vendors.

  • Coordinate annual open enrollment activities, including employee communications and system testing.

  • Review and reconcile benefits invoices and coordinate with Finance to ensure accurate payments.

  • Respond to complex employee inquiries and resolve benefits issues.

  • Monitor legislative and regulatory changes affecting employee benefits and recommend policy updates.

  • Support audits, compliance reporting, and preparation of required filings.

  • Assist in evaluating new benefits offerings and recommending improvements.

  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

REQUIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Thorough understanding of employee benefits administration principles.

  • Knowledge of applicable employment laws and regulatory requirements.

  • Strong project management and organizational skills.

  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.

  • Ability to analyze data and prepare reports for leadership.

  • Excellent customer service and conflict-resolution skills.

  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.

EDUCATION AND CERTIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree, preferred. 

  • Five to seven years of progressively responsible experience in employee benefits administration. 

  • Strong knowledge of employee benefits laws and regulations.

  • Experience administering health and welfare plans and retirement programs.

  • Proficient with Workday. 

  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information.
     

Preferred Qualifications

  • Professional certification such as CEBS, SHRM-CP/SHRM-SCP, PHR/SPHR, or CBP.

  • Experience with higher education or multi-site organizations.

  • Experience managing benefits vendors.

Starting Salary: $50,715

The referenced salary range is based on PCOM good faith belief at the time of posting. Actual compensation may vary based on factors such as geographic location, work experience, market conditions, education/training and skill level.
