Job Summary


Responsible for the recruitment and evaluation of prospective students. Utilize Slate to create events, outreach communications and support the day-to-day CRM functionality to aid in the overall mission of the Smith College Office of Admission.


Take appropriate actions to support a diverse workforce and participate in the College's efforts to create a respectful, inclusive, and welcoming work environment.


Essential Functions


Recruitment & Yield (30%):

  • Plan and coordinate up to six weeks of travel annually to recruit students and manage an assigned geographic territory determined by the Dean of Admission.
  • Visit high schools and community colleges, attend college fairs, conduct workshops related to applying to college. 
  • Initiate and maintain effective communication between Smith College and college counselors from a diverse range of high schools.
  • Manage communication with students, parents, counselors and other constituencies. 
  • Present on-campus and/or virtual information sessions and lead workshops during events for prospective and admitted students.
  • Other duties, including travel, as assigned. 

Admission Reading and Selection (20%):

  • Read, evaluate and participate in admission committee work to decide on candidate admissibility for admission to the College in coordination with a team of colleagues under the direction of the Dean of Admission.  
  • Candidates may include first-year applicants, transfer applicants or students applying through Questbridge or Posse programs.
  • Interview prospective students as needed, including Ada Comstock Scholar applicants. 

Slate, Events & Communications (40%):

  • Craft email communications for admission events.
  • Build admission program events, registration forms and surveys using Slate CRM.
  • Serve on the communications and campus visit/admitted student program teams.
  • Assist in the proofing and editing of queries and communications. 
  • Contribute to other communication team projects as assigned. 
  • Under the leadership of the Senior Associate Director of Admission and in concert with the Admission Systems Administrator and the Enrollment Analyst, serve as a contributing member of the Slate team.
  • In alignment with admission office priorities, provide comprehensive Slate support for Smith's Women of Distinction program.

Professional Development (10%):

  • Keep abreast of pertinent developments at Smith College, in higher education, and in the field of professional admission work. 
  • Develop skills and connections and pursue professional development opportunities to better understand current issues and challenges in the field of admission and in Higher Education.
  • Cooperate with other administrators of the College where necessary, especially Student Financial Services, Communications & Marketing and the Alumnae Group.
  • Performs related duties as required.  

MINIMUM REQUIRED Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree
  • 1 to 5 years experience
  • Required License(s): Driver’s license

Skills:

  • The ability to effectively and efficiently develop and execute several key projects simultaneously.
  • Must be able to work independently, have strong organizational and planning skills, excellent writing and oral communication skills.
  • Required strong analytical and technological skills including familiarity with MS Office and Google suites, CRM platforms and the ability to learn Slate CRM specifically and Workday systems.
  • Must have excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work as part of a team, interact with people of all backgrounds and use sound judgement, creativity and vision.
  • Must hold a valid driver’s license and be able and willing to travel by both car and airplane. 
  • High comfort level with public speaking to large and small groups. 
  • Able and willing to work occasional evenings and weekends.

Preferred Qualifications:


Knowledge of:

  • Previous experience in a college admission office and with public speaking preferred.
  • Individuals should be able to demonstrate fluidity with a variety of software and database management platforms. 

Skills:

  • Proficient in language other than English, especially Spanish
CompensationIn addition to a competitive benefits package, annualized pay for this role is typically between $50,298.84 - $68,051.37 covering the middle half of market compensation. Actual compensation will vary based on individual qualifications and work schedule if less than full-time.
