Responsible for maintaining the integrity, accuracy, and consistency of accounting information for the U.S. Finance organization. This includes applying accounting principles and procedures to analyze financial data, prepare accurate and timely financial and regulatory reports, and ensure the effectiveness of internal accounting control processes. Additional responsibilities include financial profitability analysis and the execution of special projects, as assigned.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Support most aspects of accounting management (e.g., asset and liability balance recording, costs and revenue recognition, tax forms, financial and regulatory reporting etc.)
- Manage journal entries and account reconciliations for the monthly and annual closing
- Review the company’s accounting information to identify and resolve inaccuracies or imbalances
- Prepare financial statements and regulatory reports in compliance with official regulatory and accounting guidelines and requirements
- Assist in the development of reports for management or regulatory bodies
- Assist in the preparation of budgets and forecasts
- Assist and participate in the preparation and entire process for audits (regulatory, financial statements, and internal audits)
- Assist in the formulation of internal controls and policies to comply with legislation and established best practices
- Identify and prevent discrepancies with the existing internal control systems
- Lead and execute special projects and process improvement initiatives
- Provide assistance on assigned activities involving other entities under the US Finance organization (i.e., NY, Chile, Caribbean, and Swiss entities)
- Utilize and maximize usage of accounting systems and technology tools to facilitate and improve processes and maintain records
- Protects organization's value by keeping information confidential
- Compliance with Anti-Money Laundering and Bank Secrecy Act related principles, laws, rules and regulations, as well as Itau’s related policies and procedures.
- Maintain sufficient knowledge on finance functions under the backup responsibilities of Accountants and Senior Accountants
- Cross train assigned team members for function backup purpose
- Update job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading professional publications; maintaining personal networks; participating in professional organizations
- Other projects as assigned
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting
- 10 to 15+ years of experience in financial accounting
- Broker dealer experience required
- Regulatory reporting experience required
- Solid knowledge of GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles) and industry and tax regulations
- Understanding of data analysis and forecasting
- Temenos T24 and NetSuite knowledge is a plus
- Experience in the financial services industry is a plus
- CPA certified / MBA certification is a plus
- Series 27 is desirable
- Big 4 experience a desirable
- Excellent oral and written communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to meet communicated schedules and deadlines
- Highly detail and problem-solving oriented and organized at work with the ability to multitask
- Ability to function as a team leader
- Strong computer skills along with proficiency in the use of MS Word and Excel and major PC Applications
- Ability to work with little supervision, cooperatively and collaboratively with all levels of employees, management, and other stakeholders (e.g., internal and external auditors, and head office)
- Fluency in English is required, fluency in Portuguese and/or Spanish is desirable
