About the role

RNWBL is seeking a highly motivated Assistant Controller at its Houston headquarters to manage the accounting group and assist in the continued optimization of the current accounting processes. The Assistant Controller will work closely with the current Controller on key initiatives to enhance the current accounting processes which should lead to accelerated month-end closing and operational/investor reporting. Aside from enhancing current processes, the Assistant Controller will work closely with the Controller and accounting group to develop and enforce accounting policies for the various processes in our groups.

The Assistant Controller role is a highly visible role within our organization. This individual needs to be comfortable collaborating with other departments to assist in finding solutions to rising challenges. This individual needs to possess strong financial and operational accounting skills to confidently propose changes to our current work scopes. Strong candidates will have a comprehensive understanding of processes that impact accounting records, such as order-to-cash, procure-to-pay, hire-to-retire, manufacturing, and record to report.

Primary responsibilities:

·       Assess accounting policies and procedures. Collaborate with accounting team to enhance current process to support future growth

·       Lead the month end close process and manage the day-to-day accounting operations by providing guidance and leadership to team members

·       Prepare and review various technical journal entries

·       Review key account reconciliations

·       Maintain and oversee the chart of accounts and our ERP architecture

·       Support KPI reporting for our various service lines

·       Primary point of contact with our external auditors

·       Work with Controller to provide tax consultants with the necessary information to complete required tax filings

·       Preliminary reviewer and assessor of accounting standards updates to determine implications to our business

·       Collaborate with and respond to ad hoc requests from key stakeholders within the organization

·       Ensure a strong framework of financial controls and adherence to established policies and procedures

·       Obtain a strong understanding of our systems and lead optimization efforts around period end reporting

·       Mentor and develop accounting staff, fostering a high-performing culture

·       Support a growing company by being agile and creative to respond to changing business needs

·       Ability to align finance and accounting to operational objectives in order to ensure all members of the company understand the company’s vision

  

Competencies

·       Strong understanding of GAAP, Intercompany Accounting, Cost Allocations, Project Accounting and Sarbanes-Oxley

·       Knowledge of NetSuite and Datarails is a plus

·       Excellent written and verbal communication skills

·       Comfortable collaborating across various departments

·       Ability to thrive in a dynamic environment and carry out responsibilities with a sense of urgency

·       High level of commitment to the job and delivering outstanding work

·       Strong excel and other Microsoft Office products

·       Understanding of fundamental processes and their impacts to general and sub edgers (ie. order-to-cash, procure-to-pay, record-to-report)

Qualifications

·       Minimum 8 years of professional experience required with at least 4 years of public accounting experience

·       CPA certified

·       Hybrid role that requires the individual to be at the office 3 days a week in Downtown Houston, TX
