The Department of Epidemiology and Biostatistics, School of Public Health, University of Maryland, College Park (http://www.sph.umd.edu/EPIB) invites applications for an Assistant Clinical Professor in biostatistics. The position primarily involves teaching courses along with departmental related duties/service. The Department’s mission is to improve health and reduce health disparities in local communities, the state of Maryland, and the nation. The Department offers an MPH degree in biostatistics, a PhD degree in biostatistics and bioinformatics (jointly offered with the Department of Mathematics), an MPH degree in epidemiology, and a PhD degree in epidemiology. The School of Public Health is accredited by the Council on Education for Public Health and is located on the flagship campus of the University of Maryland. The School’s vision is “to be a leader in the discovery, application and dissemination of public health knowledge in the State of Maryland, the nation and the world.” The successful candidate will contribute to fulfilling this vision.

QUALIFICATIONS. Qualified candidates should possess a doctoral degree in biostatistics or a closely related public health field. Qualified candidates will have demonstrated the ability to teach undergraduate and graduate level biostatistics courses and mentor students.

RESPONSIBILITIES. Successful candidates for the position are expected to teach biostatistics courses to undergraduate and graduate students at fundamental and intermediate levels, mentor students, and engage in university and professional service. Effective interpersonal, communication, and collaborative skills are essential.

SALARY and APPOINTMENT DATE. This is a full-time, nine-month, non-tenure-track position with benefits; salary is competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience. Funding is guaranteed for 9 months annually, with the potential to extend salary support with teaching summer courses. The initial contract length is 1 year with possible future renewable multi-year contracts. Appointments may begin January 2027 or a mutually agreed-upon date.

Statisticians in our Department participate in the new Applied Statistics concentration of the Applied Mathematics, Statistics and Scientific Computation (AMSC) Program. Our faculty members also interact with faculty in the Joint Program in Survey Methodology (JPSM), the Maryland Population Research Center (MPRC), the Global Environmental and Occupational Health (GEOH), the Biostatistics and Risk Assessment Center (BRAC), the Center for Bioinformatics and Computational Biology (CBCB), University of Maryland School of Medicine at Baltimore, as well as with researchers in other applied fields. The position represents a unique opportunity to join a growing department and contribute to an exciting research agenda and graduate student training program.
