This position is ideal for a dynamic educator who is passionate about mentoring students, integrating liberal arts values into professional preparation, and contributing to a transformative undergraduate experience.  In addition to the faculty responsibilities, the Associate Department Chair of the Nursing Program to provide leadership and support in advancing the program’s accreditation, curriculum development, and integration of The Essentials: Core Competencies for Professional Nursing Education (AACN). This individual will work collaboratively with the Nursing Department Chair, faculty, staff, and university leadership to ensure excellence in nursing education and student success. The Associate Program Director of Nursing will report directly to the Department Chair.


The faculty member will work a total of 10 months. The faculty contract is from August-May with an additional month added for the administrative work of the Associate Department Chair.


DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Teach undergraduate nursing courses based on expertise. (12-13 semester hours)
  • Mentor nursing majors, supporting academic progress, career readiness, and graduate school preparation.
  • Participate actively in departmental and university-wide faculty committees.
  • Engage in scholarly activity and professional development.
  • Serve as co-champion with the Nursing Program Director in maintaining and advancing program accreditation (CCNE), ensuring compliance with all regulatory and professional standards. 
  • Lead data collection, reporting, and continuous improvement efforts to meet accreditation requirements. 
  • Facilitate faculty and stakeholder engagement in accreditation self-study processes and site visits. 
  • Guide the revision and enhancement of nursing curriculum to align with current healthcare trends and best practices in nursing education. 
  • Ensure curriculum meets national standards, including The Essentials (AACN, 2021) and state regulatory requirements. 
  • Collaborate with faculty to integrate innovative teaching strategies, simulation, and competency-based education. 
  • Support faculty development in curriculum design and assessment strategies. 
  • Assist in strategic planning, policy development, and decision-making for the nursing program. 
  • Foster a culture of excellence, collaboration, and continuous improvement in nursing education. 
  • Support recruitment, retention, and mentoring of nursing faculty. 
  • Represent the nursing program in university committees and external professional organizations. 
  • Comply with all policies in the Employee Handbook and the Faculty Handbook. 
  • Faculty will teach at the Misenheimer campus and work directly with the faculty of the Nursing Department. 
Qualifications
  • Master’s degree, Ph.D., Ed.D., DNP preferred, in Nursing or closely related field (ABD considered for Assistant Professor rank).
  • An unencumbered, active Registered Nurse license
  • Evidence of effective teaching at the undergraduate level.
  • Commitment to student success and experiential learning.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with faculty across disciplines.

Skills Required

  • Master's degree in Nursing or closely related field (PhD, DNP preferred; ABD considered for Assistant Professor)
  • Unencumbered, active Registered Nurse license
  • Evidence of effective undergraduate teaching
  • Commitment to student success and experiential learning
  • Ability to work collaboratively with faculty across disciplines
  • Experience with accreditation processes (CCNE) and curriculum alignment with AACN Essentials
