After School Program Mentors ("ASPs") are responsible for leading students in fun, engaging, and developmentally aligned after-school programming that provides daily academic, recreation, and enrichment activities for Transitional Kindergarten (TK)—8th-grade students.
Work Schedule: This part-time position is scheduled to work approximately 23 hours per week, Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday from 1:45 p.m. to 6:10 p.m., and Wednesday from 12:45 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.
Responsibilities
- Monitors students’ arrival and departure to the out-of-school time.
- Tracks student attendance with appropriate student attendance programs.
- Plan, organize, and implement a variety of creative indoor activities, including mindfulness, and study habits programs.
- Plan, organize, and implement a variety of creative outdoor activities, including team sports.
- Supervise assigned students to ensure that they are safest all times and that the program operates according to the daily schedule in an organized and effective manner
- Oversee academic, homework, and enrichment activities
- Support student snack and supper program data tracking
- Travel to staff meetings, school meetings, and training as scheduled and required
- Other duties, as assigned by the supervisor
Qualifications
- High school diploma (AA degree or at least two years of college coursework preferred)
- Prior experience working with school-aged children in an academic or recreational setting
- Strong communication skills, both oral and written.
- Extensive knowledge of age-appropriate classroom and behavior management skills and age-appropriate activities
- Ability to plan, and facilitate fun engaging activities indoors and outdoors
- Ability to lead groups of students in activities while placing a high priority on safety
- Ability to work independently and with a team
- Ability to collaborate effectively with teachers, parents, and students
- A passion for working with youth
- Fluency in a second language (preferred, Spanish and Korean as high-priority languages)
