Purpose

The holder of this position will be required to adhere to all relevant requirements, policies, procedures and legal regulations pertaining to health, safety, environment, quality, and any other regulations as required by First Quantum Minerals (FQM) and Government statutory bodies and relevant to the level of the role and responsibilities of the function as an artisan boiler maker in the Flotation Plants & Gravity Concentrators of Kansanshi Processing Plant in Solwezi, Zambia.

The position of artisan boiler maker is to

  • maximize Flotation plants & Gravity Concentrators availability through maintaining operational integrity of the above fixed plants equipment & structures, in order to support Mills throughput and achievement of Copper & Gold production targets.
  • report directly to the appointed maintenance supervisor and will be responsible for providing the highest maintenance quality services in the Flotation Plants & Gravity Concentrators by ensuring all services provided are performed in a safe, qualitative and timely manner.

Key Responsibilities

The Job responsibilities of the position holder will include:

  • Full compliance to mandatory company approved PPE requirements necessary to carry out works in the Oxide, Mixed & Sulphide Flotation circuits and Gravity Concentrators. Includes but not limited to reflective work suits, safety goggles, gum boots or safety boots, hardhats and any other required special PPE.
  • Perform all assigned plant maintenance (boiler making) tasks in a safe, timely and qualitative manner as per OEM standards and FQM expectation.
  • Ensure compliance with Safety and Environmental Management systems, policies and procedures along with ensuring that all risks have been identified, managed and a safe working environment is maintained by adhering to JA's, Standard Maintenance Procedures (SMPs), Planned Task Observations (PTOs) good housekeeping practices etc.
  • Be accurate, methodical, practical and safety-conscious when installing and maintaining and repairing mechanical equipment in the Flotation circuits and Gravity Concentrators.
  • Have the ability to diagnose faults with equipment and structures through periodical inspections and usage of other specialized means such as thickness tests, dye penetration tests, magnetic particle testing etc.
  • Participate in the execution of Preventive Maintenance (PMs), breakdown works, and proactive identification of repair and maintenance works required in the Flotation circuit & Gravity Concentrators plants such as Flotation cells, feed wells & launders, pump bases, slurry pipes, gantries, Gravity Concentrators (feedboxes, overflow pipes, feed and tails pipelines, Knelson & Falcon housings) which includes identification and elimination of defects.
  • Coordinate with both Maintenance and Process team members of Flotation Plants and Gravity Concentrators in order to collectively achieve the set targets on Safety, Production and Costs KPIs.
  • Assist new employees in adapting to established work procedures and practices relevant to KMP Flotation Plants and Gravity Concentrators.

Qualifications

  • Craft Certificate in boiler making from a recognized institution [higher qualifications will be advantageous].
  • A Grade 12 school certificate.
  • Fully paid-up member of ElZ (Craftsperson)
  • A valid Zambian driving license class C will be an added advantage.

Work Experience

  • Minimum 3 years' experience in fixed processing plant as a qualified boiler maker relating to Flotation Plants & Gravity Concentrators.
  • Experience in structure and components' maintenance and repairs of Flotation cells and associated components such as feed wells, landers, dart valve seats etc.,
  • Experience in structure and components' maintenance and repairs of Gravity Concentrators machines and related components such as feed boxes, screens, chutes, pipes etc.
  • Experience in structure and components' maintenance & repairs of pipe gantries. and supports, Flotation cells & attachments etc.
  • Experience in Fabrications and Weldings of the above-mentioned structures and components relating to Flotation Plants & Gravity Concentrators.
  • Experience/knowledge to operate fork-lifts and overhead cranes will be advantageous.
