Your Opportunity
Stantec specializes in Civic Facility design work throughout California and North America, planning and designing administration, operations and maintenance facilities, police and fire stations, emergency operations/data centers, and similar facilities for State, county, municipal clients, as well as utility districts. The Los Angeles, CA office has an opening for an Architect/Designer for our Civic Architecture studio. The Architect/Designer role involves both client-facing and team-facing responsibilities and has tremendous growth potential.
Your Key Responsibilities
- Assists in the planning, organization, and directing of the work throughout the life cycle of the project.
- Engages in the development of a design through sketches, physical models, electronic models, diagrams, massing studies, and other visual formats.
- Utilizes BIM technologies in development of three-dimensional models of buildings and their components.
- Participates in design critiques and pin-ups.
- Interprets and applies building codes and requirements of other regulatory agencies.
- Prepares and revises documentation in various architectural phases including site plans, floor plans, building elevations, building sections and details.
- Participates in bidding and negotiation phase and prepare addenda.
- Reviews shop drawings and submittals, responds to RFIs, prepares site observation reports and other contract administration tasks.
- Leads project coordination and meetings with internal team members and/or external consultants, owner, contractor, and sub-contractors.
- Participates in client project requirement meetings and value analysis and basic cost estimating.
- Assists in the preparation of the project specifications. Coordination of specs with construction documents.
- Participates in constructability review.
- Conducts quality assurance and quality control on own projects.
- Prepares and ensures that work conforms to project budget, schedule, and overall work planning.
Your Capabilities and Credentials
- Experience with multiple project sizes, with a concentration in large and complex projects;
- Skilled in architecture and detailing as well as proficient in construction administrative processes;
- Proven effectiveness coordinating with contractors, architectural teams, and consultants;
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite;
- Requires understanding of project software: Revit, Bluebeam, MS Project, etc.
- Successful at leading and organizing a team of multiple disciplines and consultants;
- Confident with public speaking and networking;
- Excellent writing skills;
- Analytical thinker with strong problem-solving skills;
- Detail oriented and organized with proven experience in managing multiple projects simultaneously;
- Available for occasional travel within the US.
Education and Experience
- A minimum of 3 years of professional experience preferably in complex civic projects.
- Degree in architecture from an accredited university.
- Architectural license in California or ability to attain licensure within one year is preferred.
- DBIA certification is preferred.
- Must have valid driver's license and clean MVR.

Skills Required
