The Role
Apply research AI methods to real robotic tasks: own data collection, model training, evaluation, deployment, and tooling to scale workflows. Collaborate across AI, robotics, product, and commercial teams to move applications to reliable operation.
Summary Generated by Built In
mimic is an early stage deep tech robotics & AI start-up based in Zurich and supported by leading VCs. We give industry workers a helping hand for tedious manual labour tasks and mitigate labour shortages with a versatile automation platform. Our automation solutions, driven by dexterous robotic hands and cutting edge AI trained on human observations, bring a new level of AI embodiment to the real world.

As an Applied AI Engineer, you will bridge the gap between our core AI research and real-world customer applications. You will take AI methods and training recipes developed by our research team and apply them to new robotic tasks — owning the process from data collection and training through evaluation and deployment.
Beyond individual customer applications, you will help turn our AI capabilities into repeatable, scalable workflows by developing the tooling and functionality needed to train, deploy, monitor, and continuously improve our models.

Responsibilities
  • Apply existing AI methods and training recipes to new customer tasks and robotic applications
  • Own model training runs, evaluation, and iteration to improve performance
  • Monitor training data quality, coverage, and collection progress
  • Develop tooling and workflows around existing AI models to make training, deployment, monitoring, and continuous improvement more scalable
  • Translate learnings from customer projects into requirements and improvements for our AI capabilities and product workflows
  • Understand the capabilities and limitations of our robotic systems and help assess the technical feasibility of new customer tasks
  • Collaborate with AI, robotics, product, and commercial teams to take new applications from initial concept to reliable operation

Requirements
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, AI, Engineering, or a related technical field
  • Strong software engineering skills and proficiency in Python
  • Hands-on experience working with AI/ML systems, including model training, evaluation, data pipelines, or deployment
  • Experience with modern ML frameworks such as PyTorch
  • Ability to understand existing AI methods and codebases and apply them effectively to new problems
  • Strong understanding of the relationship between training data, model performance, evaluation, and iteration
  • Ability to build practical tooling and workflows around AI models rather than only developing models in isolation
  • Strong ownership and ability to independently drive technical work from problem definition through implementation
  • Comfortable working in a fast-moving environment where problems span AI, software, robotics, and real-world operations
  • Strong communication skills in English

Nice to Have
  • Familiarity deploying AI models on real robotic hardware
  • Experience working directly with industrial customers (e.g. automotive, logistics, manufacturing) and operating in production environments

Compensation & Benefits
We offer a total compensation package including a competitive yearly base salary and a strong stock option package to make you part of our shared success.

You will have the opportunity to shape a robotics & AI company from the ground up. In flat hierarchies you will work directly with the founders and some of the best talents in the robotics space. At mimic, you are accepted for who you are. As part of our ongoing journey towards creating a diverse and inclusive environment we encourage everyone to apply and we are looking forward to you bringing along your knowledge, personal experiences, and fresh perspectives. Together we can solve some of the greatest challenges in robotics.
