Summary:

The Application Engineer – Drilling and Completion Fluids - ensures that Baker Hughes can deliver flawless execution through involvement in pre‑planning, job execution, and post‑job analysis. This position delivers a technical work program or application design that maximizes our ability to meet job objectives in line with the contract’s terms and conditions. The role works seamlessly with Operations Coordinators and other resources across organizational boundaries to ensure that all aspects and constraints of the application are understood and considered.

Professional background in drilling fluid analysis on field‑based evaluations in oil and gas environments.

Ability to work within a global matrix organization.

Full understanding of Profit & Loss requirements and technical job planning.

You will be responsible for:

As an Application Engineer – Drilling and Completion Fluids, you will be responsible for:

  • Ensuring compliance with the Manage the Job Cycle (MtJC) process.
  • Working with the assigned Operations/Commercial Coordinator to understand the customer’s well construction or production objectives, as well as Baker Hughes’ commercial terms (e.g., performance‑based contract, line‑item contract, etc.).
  • Performing post‑job analysis and engineering modeling calculations specific to the product/service to understand application risks and potential incidents.
  • Collaborating with all disciplines and stakeholders to ensure that all aspects and constraints of the application and proposed products/services have been considered.
  • Developing a work program, including risk‑mitigation and contingency plans, that meets customer objectives, maximizes revenue potential, and ensures future job assignments for Baker Hughes.
  • Working with the Operations/Commercial Coordinator to ensure that any risk of not meeting customer objectives is communicated using the appropriate channels/processes for that customer.
  • Accurately documenting all calculations/simulations/plan reviews and/or changes throughout the project cycle for visibility to dependent teams and for audit purposes.
  • Providing on‑demand support according to the product portfolio or planning schedule for job execution.
  • Comparing planned work with executed work, documenting lessons learned, and developing recommendations for further procedural improvements to ensure continuous improvement.
  • Working on field incidents related to products/services.
  • Participating in incident investigations when required, ensuring that the end‑to‑end process (including planning, preparation, and job execution) is considered when determining root cause(s) and appropriate corrective actions.
  • Ensuring timely incident management to enable rapid customer issue resolution and financial recovery.
  • Advising on product improvement opportunities for recurring component/product failures.
  • Providing sales support and product application recommendations.
  • Performing product‑line‑specific responsibilities as applicable.
  • Handling special projects as needed.

ADDITIONAL PRODUCT‑LINE‑SPECIFIC REQUIREMENTS:

  • Supporting joint initiatives with other Product Lines.
  • Assisting and supporting the preparation of high‑level bids.
  • Providing expertise in product application.
  • Supporting laboratory testing at headquarters and/or regional labs.
  • Supporting Operations Coordinators (SDC) with computational modeling as needed (hydraulics, displacements, etc.).
  • Traveling to customer locations when required.
  • Monitoring KPIs to evaluate operational effectiveness.
  • Preparing service deliverables according to standard operating procedures, internal management systems, or customer‑agreed procedures.
  • Conducting post‑action reviews with Operations Coordinators for each critical/new project and/or jobs with medium or high‑impact incidents, comparing planned vs. executed work and documenting lessons learned.
  • Participating in operational and rig calls during critical well drilling and completion phases.
  • Advising on product improvement opportunities for recurring product failures.
  • Preparing case histories of successful applications.
  • Collaborating with remote teams to share technical knowledge, theories, and actions to provide fast and effective resolution of questions and issues.
  • Developing Field Test Plans for new products/technologies and preparing service delivery reports according to agreements and procedures for internal and customer distribution.
  • Leading internal and external customer meetings for post‑job analysis.
  • Creating technical presentations for customers as needed.
  • Training less‑experienced personnel.
