Position Overview

Jefferies is looking to hire an experienced employment lawyer, with a strong track record working in-house in a fast-paced financial services environment (preferably investment banking) and/or experience in private practice at a leading firm with a substantial focus on advising a financial institution client base. Responsibilities will include managing (directly and with support of external counsel) legal and HR issues arising in APAC jurisdictions in which Jefferies operates, including Hong Kong, Singapore, Japan, Australia, India and Korea. As well as being a subject matter expert, the candidate should have the confidence and initiative to support senior management, including Regional and Global Heads of corporate and business lines.

This is an exciting opportunity to join an established and growing business, and the ideal candidate will have hands-on experience advising on all aspects of the employment lifecycle in a regulated organisation in APAC, in particular:

  • Advising on day-to-day employment issues such as remuneration and benefits structures and entitlements, business protection, dispute resolution, disciplinary processes, performance management, grievance processes and preventative management
  • Drafting, reviewing and negotiating employment documents, policies and procedures
  • Managing employment litigation claims and pre-action matters
  • Direct advisory on hires and exits
  • Developing and sharing employment legal best practices with the APAC HR team
  • Support with key projects such as India Labor Law Code changes, Japan JV project etc.
  • Providing training to control functions and managers on employment law and HR issues

In addition, the candidate should:

  • Be confident in providing immediate support and advice to the business
  • Be commercially savvy with the ability to distil and explain legal issues and recommendations quickly and succinctly
  • Have a working knowledge of employment law, human resources and regulatory landscapes in APAC.
  • Be efficient at managing and prioritising a varied workload for a number of different stakeholders
  • Have a highly collaborative outlook, working in partnership with Corporate and the Front Office businesses
  • Have experience of dealing with senior business managers and presenting at board committees
