Lilly Research Laboratories is looking for a Site Reliability Engineer - Artificial Intelligence and Automation Solutions for a large scale, multi-year transformation effort that will be reimagining how clinical trials are performed using AI and automation. Research Tech unites science with technology to accelerate the Research and Development of medicines and to deliver therapeutic innovations. The team leverages technology and platforms to streamline scientific experimentation to help Researchers follow the science, to understand the disease and identify potential therapies. They are at the forefront of advanced analytics to enable data driven drug discovery; to innovate so scientists can rapidly analyze and accelerate the discovery of new medicines.
What you’ll be doing
As part of a collaborative team of versatile professionals focused on LRL, you will be responsible for ensuring system reliability and resiliency to make it faster and easier to develop, configure, deploy, and support software capabilities. You will focus especially on building automation to reduce manual effort and prevent operational issues.
You will be using strong problem solving and analytical skills and are highly adaptable to changing circumstances. You must have a passion for collaboratively supporting solutions, continuously learning, mentoring, and leading teams for improved end user and customer experience.
How you will succeed
- You collaborate within product team(s) to promote the concept of reliability engineering during all phases of the software lifecycle to detect and correct performance issues and meet availability goals.
- You work with stakeholders (e.g., product owners) to define service level objectives (SLOs) for system operations.
- You track performance against SLOs in partnership with others to ensure systems meet SLOs over time.
- You create software to improve system performance, scalability, and stability, and to automate manual operational work (i.e., “toil”).
- You participate in operational support and drive blameless post-mortems to troubleshoot and resolve priority incidents.
- You evaluate and recommend methods for improving automation, security, and system observability.
- You play an important role in researching, defining, and championing reliability engineering practices among product teams. And you strive to collaborate and share information with other Service Reliability Engineers, e.g., by participating in a community of practice.
- You understand the importance of keeping our systems and data secure and private. You work with your product team as well as security and privacy experts to build, monitor, and maintain assurance techniques.
- You identify, assess, and mitigate key risks inherent to any dependencies your product has on third parties who develop, support, use, and/or assist with the lifecycle of your product.
What you will bring
- Strong problem solving and analytical skills and highly adaptable to changing circumstances.
- Experience in reliability engineering and monitoring practices, environments, and tools (e.g., on prem hosting, cloud ecosystems, monitoring/observability, configuration management, CI/CD, etc.).
- Technical Experience with programming / scripting languages (e.g., Java, Python, etc.) or configuration environments
- Experience with large-scale databases, data movement and analytics tools
- Experience with ITIL v4 processes, framework, and tools that support it (e.g., ServiceNow).
- Create meaningful dashboards/reports for application telemetry and infrastructure health for pro-actively identifying performance constraints and bottlenecks
- Design and build custom tools as needed to support process optimization, challenging the status-quo and improving operational efficiency
- Monitor, measure and improve the reliability, availability and scalability of IT Infrastructure, applications and services
- Strong knowledge of agile practices and agile planning tools (e.g., Jira).
- Effective written and verbal communication skills for both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Experience working in a highly regulated environment with a deep understanding of how quality standards and procedures are applied to applications, protecting privacy related data and identifying security threats.
Your Basic Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in IT or equivalent field
- Strong understanding of automation and basic scripting
- Resourcefulness and ability to devise creative solutions to current problems
- Ability to anticipate future issues and address proactively
- Minimum 3-5 years relevant work experience
- Ability to leverage enterprise-wide Tech@Lilly relationships to analyze the impact of changes in global services on Product Development operations and applications
- Knowledge of DevSecOps, quality, software management and maintenance
- Strong self-leadership
