Opportunity

AIMCo is seeking an Analyst / Senior Analyst, Private Market Risk to join the Investment Risk Management (IRM) team within the Risk Management division.
IRM supports investment decision-making by providing independent risk assessment, oversight, and advisory of investment risks at the transaction, asset class, client portfolio, and Total Fund levels.
In this generalist role, you will support Product Risk Leads in assessing, monitoring, and reporting on risks across AIMCo's private market investments, including Private Equity, Infrastructure & Renewable Resources, Real Estate, and Private Debt.
This is an excellent opportunity for a risk professional who enjoys learning, collaboration, thoughtful analysis, and contributing to meaningful investment decisions. You'll gain broad exposure across multiple private market asset classes while partnering with experienced investment and risk professionals at one of Canada's leading institutional investors.
The successful candidate may be hired at the Analyst, Senior Analyst, or Manager level based on experience, qualifications, and demonstrated capabilities.

What You Will Do 


As a member of the Investment Risk Management team, you will support Product Risk Leads by: 

  • Conducting independent risk assessments of private market investments, including funds, co-investments, and direct investments, through the identification of key investment risks, assessment of portfolio fit, evaluation of investment strategy, and consideration of broader client portfolio implications. 
  • Contributing to portfolio risk analysis and ongoing monitoring activities that provide insight into the risk profile of private market investments and support risk-informed decision-making. 
  • Partnering with colleagues across investment and risk teams to enhance risk reporting, scenario analysis, and risk modeling capabilities. 
  • Assisting in the preparation of materials for senior leadership, the Board, and clients while contributing to the continuous improvement of risk processes and reporting. 
  • Helping foster a culture of transparency, learning, collaboration, and risk awareness across the organization.

Technical Qualifications 


Required 

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Finance, Economics, Commerce, Actuarial Science, Business, Mathematics, Statistics, or another relevant quantitative discipline. 
  • Relevant experience in investment management, asset management, risk management, financial analysis, portfolio analytics, banking, capital markets, insurance, consulting, corporate finance, or related fields. 
  • Strong understanding of financial markets, institutional investing, portfolio construction, investment processes, and risk management principles. 
  • Strong analytical and quantitative capabilities with the ability to assess complex information and formulate thoughtful recommendations. 

Preferred 

  • Progress toward, or completion of, a CFA, CAIA, PRM, FRM, or similar professional designation is an asset. 
  • Experience using data analytics, technology, or AI-enabled tools . 
  • This position is based in Alberta and may be located in either Edmonton or Calgary under AIMCo's hybrid work model.
