This position is a member of the Gas Market Analytics team which is responsible for market analysis, developing fundamental market models, short and long term balance and price forecasting using statistical and qualitative methodologies in support of gas and power trading activities. Coverage includes all North American natural gas market fundamentals with a focus on the Northeast US markets. The primary responsibility of this role is providing analysis and research related to Northeastern gas markets but also includes coverage of other fuels, power, and global gas markets that impact the domestic natural gas fundamentals. These activities include both short and long term analytics, research, developing market views, and actionable trade strategies in support of Market Operations and Gas Trading activities as well as Corporate strategies.

Essential Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Track fundamental drivers for the North American natural gas markets and develop methods of communicating this information to senior leadership and other internal clients.
  • Create and maintain a proprietary view for the gas markets to provide internal clients with decision making information.
  • Manage and advance data scraping and database capabilities with a focus on driving efficiency through automation of the reporting suite.
  • Process market intelligence and fundamentals to support and recommend front office trade and hedging strategies (short term - 3 years). Develop market analysis tools to aid this short term strategic decision making and tactical trading opportunities.
  • Develop and operate simulation models to create short term and long term balance and price forecasting for pipelines, storage facilities, and regional markets.
  • Disseminate daily market briefs and reports to the Commercial, Operations, Sales, and Origination teams.
  • Work with senior management to produce presentations for board meetings, earnings calls, investor day presentations, or other events as required.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Working Conditions:

  • Open office environment.
  • Some overtime required as special projects arise.
  • Travel - minimal.
  • Hybrid in-office and work from home.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor Degree in Finance, Economics, Statistics or related discipline (MBA/Masters preferred).
  • Three to five years fundamental analysis experience in natural gas marketing.
  • Strong analytical, mathematical, process modeling, presentation and report preparation skills and experience.
  • Proficiency with Excel required.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Northeast US natural gas experience preferred.
  • Broad knowledge of the natural gas markets; power markets experience/knowledge is preferred.
  • Proficiency with VBA, SQL tools, Matlab, Python, R, Power BI is preferred.
  • Excellent technical skills with proven ability to manage databases, perform web scraping, and leverage coding for report automation.

  • Effective oral and written communication skills, positive attitude and highly motivated. A self-starter, adaptive and versatile, able to work effectively in an active trading environment. Strategic, efficient, and entrepreneurial candidates will excel in this role.
  • Able to prioritize tasks based on potential commercial impacts, able to meet aggressive deadlines.
  • Position may be filled at various levels depending on candidate qualifications such as experience and technical skills.
