Job Description:
The Business & Information Services team covers 19 stocks across the data & information and core business services spaces. The diversity of coverage provides significant learning opportunities (different business models, end-markets) in a sector with strong investor interest. The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 3 years of sell-side or buy-side experience covering the sector or related industries including financial services or software. This candidate will work with both the Senior Analyst and team members in all aspects of the job, including idea generation, contribution to investment recommendations, industry research, modeling, writing, valuation analysis, client interaction, attending company meetings and industry conferences and much more.
Responsibilities
- Work with Senior Analyst to develop differentiated investment ideas and actionable research for institutional investor clients
- Write regular industry and company reports and company launch initiations from scratch
- Participate in IPO-related vettings and analyst days
- Perform complex financial modeling & valuation work
- Develop databases integral to our research product
- Demonstrate strong industry knowledge and business judgment
- Seek out new, unusual sources of information to augment our research capabilities
- Closely follow and understand market, industry and company specific activity, and relay to analyst when traveling
- Build relationships and facilitate information flow with contacts at covered companies
- Interview industry experts regarding our covered companies and industries
- Interact regularly with sales, trading and external clients
- Respond to research inquiries from our institutional investor clients during market hours
- If performance on team is strong enough, take on coverage of individual stocks over time
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent years of experience; CFA or other relevant professional certifications is a plus
- Minimum 3 years experience - sell-side or buy-side (research, investment banking) preferred
- Experience covering business and information services, financials or software preferred but not required
- Strong writing, modeling and financial analysis skills (income statement, balance sheet, and cash flow statement in Excel)
- Along with Finance and Accounting, should have basic understanding of economics, macroeconomic factors, international affairs, and policy/politics
- Credit skills are a plus
- Strong verbal communication skills with a demonstrated ability to generate differentiated investment insights and communicate complex ideas clearly
- Self-motivated, intellectually curious, and passionate about financial markets
- Must have strong attention to detail, ability to multi-task, and a strong work ethic
- Must work well in a collaborative team environment
