7 News in the nation’s capital is looking for an energetic, versatile morning storyteller to help us build our growing AM audience across all platforms. This job involves multiple live shots from the field each morning as well as the ability to effectively craft and execute stories in the studio. A self-starter who loves to dig but can also quickly process and report the important facts in breaking news will be a great fit for this role.
THE SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATE:
- Knows how important the morning show is, loves the shift and the vibe.
- Wants to work as part of a team, getting the DMV (District, Maryland and Virginia) prepared for the day.
- Knows the news, can gather and deliver any kind of story in an impactful, engaging way on-air and on digital/social platforms.
- Understands the digital news cycle of updating and adding to your story throughout the shift.
- Is committed to journalistic standards of fairness and objectivity.
- Takes pride in finding A block enterprise stories that set 7 News apart from the competition.
- Able to engage with and foster relationships with local leaders and sources.
- Brings a positive, collaborative attitude every day.
- Understands news is not a 9-to-5 job. Willing and able to work nights, weekends and holidays as needed.
The usual stuff:
- A Bachelor’s degree in journalism or a related field.
- Minimum 4 years experience in a Top 40 market.
- Familiarity with newsroom systems, non-linear editing and attention-grabbing content creation on social platforms.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
