OVERALL PURPOSE OF JOB:

This position is responsible for being part of the meal service provisions provided by Dining Services.  Responsible to deliver meals to patient floors as well as conference rooms, serves food to patients, cafeteria customers and catered events.  Maintains proper portion control and food temperatures, operates the cash register, and exhibits proper customer service.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF JOB: (other duties may be assigned)

1. Perform functions for patient meal service.

KEY MEASURES:

• Gather necessary food items according to menu.
• Set up carts with all necessary wares.
• Communicate with the Dietary Supervisor for special concerns.
• Perform/assist spoken menu tasks as assigned.
• MediTech proficient/Must be able to log in and check patient diets and allergies.

1. Deliver patient trays and supplies.

KEY MEASURES:

• Deliver trays to patients in a timely and courteous manner.
• Ensure the correct diet goes to the correct patient using standard practices and following HIPAA rules.
• Adequately stock all units with floor supplies, rotating, and updating according to par levels and policy.

1. Prepare in-between meals and nourishments for patients.

KEY MEASURES:

• Transport supplies to several departments.
• Deliver trays to patients and also pick up trays.
• Take special snacks to various departments for patients.

1. Operate the dishwasher and assist in washing pots and pans.

KEY MEASURES:

• Check and log all temperatures before operating the dishwasher or pot sink.
• Run dishes through the dishwasher properly.
• Effectively cleans pots and pans.
• Store all clean wares appropriately.

1. Cafe Focus: Prepare/assemble necessary Café food items.

KEY MEASURES:

• Follow standard recipes and portions.
• Use approved packaging and labels.
• Maintain full supply of all items.

1. 1. Café Focus: Serving food in Café.

KEY MEASURES:

• Make sure all necessary and listed items are ready for Café.

• Serve employees and visitors their choice from the menu.
• Use standard portions and safe food handling techniques.
• Obtain supplies for the next day.

1. Cafe Focus:  Cash handling in Café.

KEY MEASURES:

• Accurately operate the cash register.
• Give customers prompt and friendly service.
• Accurately complete cash handling forms.
• Properly process all gift cards, discounts, and vouchers.

1. Perform cleaning and sanitation tasks throughout the department.

KEY MEASURES:

• Wipe counter areas and carts frequently and with approved products.
• Transport bins up and down steps while utilizing proper body mechanics.
• Clean tables, counter areas, grills, and french fryer as necessary.
• Clean tables, counter areas, dairy case, ice cream cooler, refrigerator, deep freeze, and record temperatures of all coolers and freezers each shift.

QUALIFICATIONS:

1. Education/Training/License/Certification:

High school diploma or general education degree (GED).

1. Work Experience:

Three months to one year related experience and/or training, preferably in a health care setting.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:

1. Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
2. Ability to write simple correspondence.
3. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to patients and other employees of the organization.
4. Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals.
5. Ability to compute rate, ratio and percent.
6. Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form.
7. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
8. Effective written and verbal communication skills as well as interpersonal skills.
9. Knowledge of various regulatory agency regulations.
10. Knowledge of diet modification.
