The Agribusiness & Climate Innovation Associate plays a vital role in advancing Karakunku Farm’s mission to drive sustainable agricultural transformation in The Gambia through climate-smart technologies and inclusive agribusiness models. This position is central to the successful implementation of solar-powered automated drip irrigation systems, farmer capacity building, and data-driven impact assessment. The associate will work directly with smallholder farmers, youth groups, and development partners to scale climate-resilient farming practices, improve water and land use efficiency, and strengthen local food systems. By combining technical support, community engagement, and innovation, the role ensures that project outcomes are measurable, scalable, and aligned with national sustainability goals.
Responsibilities:
- Support the installation, operation, and maintenance of solar-powered drip irrigation systems across pilot farms
- Manage nursery operations, including seedling production, transplanting, and quality control
- Deliver hands-on farmer training and awareness sessions on climate-smart agriculture, water conservation, and sustainable practices
- Conduct regular monitoring and data collection for project impact assessment and reporting
- Facilitate market linkages for the sale of vegetables and seedlings to enhance farmer income
- Lead or support community tree planting and environmental conservation initiatives
- Document project success stories, lessons learned, and best practices for internal and external communication
- Build and maintain partnerships with NGOs, youth groups, cooperatives, and development agencies to expand project reach and impact
Skills Required
- Experience installing, operating, and maintaining solar-powered drip irrigation systems.
- Experience managing nursery operations including seedling production, transplanting, and quality control.
- Experience delivering farmer training and awareness sessions on climate-smart agriculture and water conservation.
- Experience conducting monitoring, data collection, and impact assessment for agricultural projects.
