Afterschool Hourly Staff- Region 4

The Afterschool Hourly Staff member supports the delivery of academic instruction, homework assistance, enrichment activities, and student supervision in a safe and supportive afterschool environment. Based on the applicant’s education, certification, and experience, the selected candidate will be assigned to serve as either an Afterschool Teacher or an Afterschool Paraprofessional.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Provide or support academic lessons, tutoring, homework assistance, and enrichment activities.

• Provide individual and small-group support based on students’ academic and developmental needs.

• Use positive classroom- and behavior-management practices to maintain a safe, inclusive, and engaging environment.

• Prepare and organize instructional materials, supplies, and activities before students arrive.

• Actively supervise students during instruction, transitions, snacks or meals, recreation, and dismissal.

• Monitor student participation and progress and maintain required attendance, incident, and program records.

• Collaborate with teachers, paraprofessionals, Site Coordinators, program leaders, school personnel, and other staff to support students.

• Communicate professionally with students, families, school personnel, and program staff.

• Follow all student-safety, confidentiality, emergency-response, behavior-support, and mandated-reporting requirements.

• Participate in required meetings, training, professional learning, and program-evaluation activities.

• Maintain regular and reliable attendance and arrive prepared for each scheduled shift.

• Comply with Communities In Schools of Georgia policies, school-site procedures, and applicable laws and regulations.

• Perform other related duties as assigned to support students and program operations.

Minimum Qualifications for All Applicants

• High school diploma or GED.

• Experience working directly with children in an educational, afterschool, childcare, recreation, mentoring, tutoring, or youth-development setting.

• Ability to work effectively with school-age students and follow instructional plans, directions, and program procedures.

• Ability to communicate professionally and work collaboratively with students, families, school personnel, and program staff.

• Ability to maintain confidentiality and respond calmly and appropriately to student needs.

• Ability to successfully complete all required background checks and school-site clearance requirements.

• Current CPR/First Aid certification or the ability to obtain certification within the timeframe established by the organization.

• Basic proficiency with email and electronic attendance or reporting systems.

Additional Qualifications for Afterschool Teacher Assignment

• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.

• Current, valid state-issued teaching certificate. Certification must remain active throughout employment.

• Experience teaching or providing academic instruction to school-age children.

• Strong instructional planning, lesson facilitation, and classroom-management skills.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in an afterschool, summer-learning, tutoring, or youth-development program.

• Experience serving students from diverse backgrounds and students with varying academic or behavioral support needs.

• Familiarity with social-emotional learning, restorative practices, or trauma-informed student support.
