JOB SUMMARY:

As a part-time employee of the After School Clubs Program, the role of a childcare staff member consists of supervising, assisting, and ensuring the safety of all the children in our program, as well as interacting with their parents/guardians and/or caregivers/drivers. 



ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND TASKS:


  • Arrives on time to allow time to pick up and highlight daily attendance and sign-out sheets before students arrive.
  • Supervises, assists, and interacts with students in After School.
  • Respectfully welcome and assist parents, guardians, caregivers and drivers.
  • Greets and signs in students upon their arrival.
  • Informs immediate supervisor at once that students are unaccounted for.
  • Monitors and accounts for students in the classrooms, on the playgrounds, during snack time, and when transporting them to another location.
  • Ensures that the students are never left unattended in the classroom.
  • Knowledge of emergency evacuation routes for the classrooms assigned.
  • Knowledge of procedures for referring students who have disciplinary problems.
  • Knowledge of school procedures and regulations, including evacuation procedures, lock-down procedures, and weather-related emergency procedures.
  • Monitors student behaviors and possible conflicts and is prepared to redirect and intervene when necessary.
  • Implements sign-out for children when parents, guardians, caregivers, and/or drivers arrive.
  • Must be able to load students in and out of vehicles as needed.
  • Maintains accurate attendance sheet records that include time in and time out and parent signatures.
  • Report any concerns to the immediate supervisor, such as conflicts, injuries, and/or inappropriate behaviors.
  • Adheres to the MCDS’s policies and procedures including code of conduct and ethics.
  • Completes other assigned tasks consistent with the position upon the supervisor’s request.
Qualifications

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES


  • High school diploma or GED
  • Work in a fast-paced, high responsibility environment dealing with a wide variety of challenges, deadlines, and a varied and diverse array of contacts.
  • Must be reliable and punctual.
  • Prior experience in a similar role is advantageous.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Ability to relate well to people and to work collaboratively.
  • Enthusiastic, flexible, patient, hands-on, and positive demeanor.
  • Ability to multi-task and prioritize work.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
  • May work long hours for extended periods of time.
  • Must be able to lift up to 30 pounds on occasion.
  • Ability to work in varied and changing weather conditions, including extreme heat and humidity.
