We are seeking an experienced Aerodynamics CFD Engineer to support vehicle aerodynamic development through Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) simulations and engineering analysis. The successful candidate will be responsible for preparing CFD-ready geometry, generating high-quality computational meshes, performing aerodynamic simulations, analysing results, and providing engineering recommendations that support vehicle design and development.
- Develop aerodynamic surfaces from engineering concepts, packaging data, and simplified design inputs
- Prepare CFD-ready geometry from both production ready CAD and incomplete or evolving CAS models.
- Clean, simplify, and modify geometry to ensure suitability for CFD analysis.
- Setting up and optimizing CFD workflow process focusing on Efficiency, Speed and Quality of analysis.
- Set up, execute, monitor, and troubleshoot aerodynamic CFD simulations.
- Analyze aerodynamic performance, including drag, lift, flow structures, pressure distributions, and cooling airflow where applicable.
- Interpret simulation results and provide practical engineering recommendations to improve aerodynamic performance.
- Modify, morph, and optimize aerodynamic surfaces to support rapid design iterations and concept evaluations.
- Prepare clear technical reports, visualizations, and presentations to summarize simulation findings and design recommendations.
- Collaborate closely with vehicle design, engineering, and program teams throughout the vehicle development process.
- Support multiple development studies while maintaining simulation quality, accuracy, and delivery schedules.
Requirements
- At least 5 years' experience in in automotive aerodynamics and external vehicle CFD simulations.
- Proficiency with one or more CFD software packages such as STAR-CCM+, PowerFLOW, ANSYS Fluent, or OpenFOAM.
- Experience using programming languages such as Python, Java, or MATLAB for workflow automation and data processing.
- Experience preparing CAD and CAS geometry for aerodynamic CFD analysis.
- Experience in setting up/using parametric morphing models in ANSA.
- Strong understanding of geometry cleanup, surface preparation, and mesh generation techniques.
- Experience working with conceptual, incomplete, or continuously evolving vehicle geometry.
- Ability to interpret CFD results and translate them into clear, actionable engineering recommendations.
- Familiarity with aerodynamic performance metrics, flow visualization, and post-processing techniques.
- Experience with CAD software such as CATIA, Alias, Siemens NX, or equivalent is desirable.
