  • Work environment: 100% in-office
  • Dates: Summer 2027 — 10-week minimum between June and August, 30–40 hours/week

Internship Summary

Summitry's internship is built for rising juniors seriously considering a career as a financial advisor and is a key entry point into our Private Client Group (PCG). Strong performers may be offered a full-time Financial Advisor Associate (FAA) position before they graduate. The right intern is enthusiastic, inquisitive, diligent, and personable, can speak to why the advisory path genuinely interests them, and brings an elevated level of professionalism to client interactions and sensitive information, consistent with our core values: care, grow, and drive.

Structure

  • Once an offer is accepted, incoming interns are connected with Summitry employees through our Pathfinders program, a voluntary, low-lift way to build early relationships, learn how the firm works, and walk in confident on Day 1. Pathfinders are there for guidance and context, not formal performance coaching.
  • Weeks 1 and 2 cover team and system orientation and coffee chats across the firm, with light exposure to the Investments and Business Development teams.
  • Weeks 3 through 10 sit with the PCG team, centered on project, reporting, and process work with client meeting prep and attendance layered in, plus exposure to Client Services and our Chief Experience Officer.
  • At the end of Week 10, the intern will deliver a capstone presentation to the full Summitry team (this is a change to reflect on what they experienced, demonstrate what they learned, and share the moments that were most meaningful to them).

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Spends the majority of their time on project, reporting, and structure work supporting our Private Client Group (PCG), while participating in client and internal meetings alongside advisors.
  • Examples of past intern projects have included RMD and capital gains spreadsheets, client meeting deck prep, Salesforce data analysis and dashboard builds, data review and migration projects, AI implementation, and business-development support (actual projects will vary based on business needs)
  • Creates deliverables that support client and prospect meetings, developing the communication, analytical, and project-management skills central to the advisor role
  • Develops professional skills through networking and interaction with industry professionals and Summitry leaders, including at least one project or recurring meeting with our Chief Experience Officer
  • Other projects as assigned by the Manager
  • Creates and presents a final capstone project highlighting main projects and learnings from the program, including a “day in the life” of an intern in the final week of the program

Qualifications

  • College Junior (should be a rising Senior when the internship begins the summer of 2027)
  • Genuine interest in becoming a financial advisor (the primary focus of the program)
  • RIA/financial services internship/experience is preferred
  • Customer service and leadership experience
  • Positive attitude, curiosity, and initiative: asks questions, speaks up, works well alone and on a team
  • Organization and time management: meets deadlines, tracks tasks without reminders, juggles priorities
  • Accuracy and attention to detail: careful, well-organized work and reliable follow-through
  • Communication and professionalism: clear writing and speaking, strong people skills, discretion with clients
  • Project execution and technical skills: delivers strong work, including a capstone presentation; strong proficiency in MS Office, specifically Excel, and eager to learn firm tools (Salesforce, eMoney, AI tools)
  • Must be able to relocate to the Bay Area for the internship and after graduation. Housing and living costs are not covered.
  • Work authorization: must be legally authorized to work in the United States without current or future employer sponsorship

Compensation

  • The expected hourly pay range for this position is $20-25/hour and is contingent upon experience level (not eligible for employee benefits or relocation assistance)
