We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Protein Engineer to join our BioTDR team at Eli Lilly and Company. This role will be responsible for the design, generation, optimization and novel delivery technologies of therapeutic antibodies to support our innovative drug discovery pipeline.
Job Responsibilities
Design and execute strategies for the generation and engineering of therapeutic antibodies using various technologies (e.g., rational design, phage display, yeast display) and molecular biology techniques.
Perform antibody humanization, affinity maturation, and developability optimization using rational design and high-throughput screening methods.
Support the development of antibodies for the delivery through genetic medicines.
Characterize antibody binding, specificity, and functional activity using biochemical and cell-based assays (e.g., ELISA, SPR, flow cytometry).
Collaborate closely with project teams, including discovery biologists, protein scientists, genetic medicine, in vivo pharmacologists, to advance therapeutic programs.
Analyze and interpret complex experimental data, present findings effectively, and contribute to scientific discussions and publications.
Maintain accurate and detailed experimental records and contribute to the development of intellectual property.
Stay current with scientific literature and new technologies in antibody engineering and drug discovery.
Basic Qualifications
Ph.D. in Molecular Biology, Immunology, Biochemistry, or a related field with 2+ years of relevant experience in protein engineering within an industry setting, or an M.S. with 5+ years of relevant experience.
Additional Skills and Preferences
Demonstrated expertise in protein design, generation, and engineering techniques, including molecular cloning, mutagenesis, and library construction.
Proficiency with various antibody display technologies (e.g., phage display, yeast display).
Strong hands-on experience with antibody characterization techniques (e.g., ELISA, SPR/BLI, flow cytometry).
Experience with viral delivery methods a plus.
Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills.
Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, multidisciplinary environment.
Strong oral and written communication skills with the ability to effectively present scientific data.

Actual compensation will depend on a candidate’s education, experience, skills, and geographic location. The anticipated wage for this position is
$138,000 - $224,400Full-time equivalent employees also will be eligible for a company bonus (depending, in part, on company and individual performance).
