We are looking for an Advanced SW Engineer to join our Edge / Cloud Platform team. This person will advance the technical direction for edge computing solutions and will also support architecture reviews across other applications in the portfolio. This is a hands-on development role — deep technical ownership combined with cross-team influence.
Responsibilities- Serve as a senior developer driving the design and delivery of the Forge Cognition edge computing initiative
- Define and own edge architecture patterns for distributed, resource-constrained, and disconnected/intermittently-connected environments
- Architect and operationalize workloads on Google Distributed Cloud (GDC) (edge and/or hosted, depending on program needs)
- Design, build, and scale Kubernetes-based deployments for edge and cloud (Azure, GCP, Alibaba)
- Lead cloud & hybrid architecture for scalability & resilience.
- Build and maintain Ansible-based automation for provisioning, configuration management, and fleet operations across distributed edge nodes
- Develop core services, tooling, and integrations in Python
- Architect solutions for IoT device connectivity, telemetry ingestion, data pipelines, and device lifecycle management
- Enhance the Platform Engineering and developer enablement platform by creating reusable templates, self-service workflows, deployment guardrails, documentation, and automation that improve engineering velocity and consistency
- Participate in and lead architecture review boards for other applications across the org, providing technical guidance and best-practice recommendations
- Partner with product, platform, and infra teams to ensure edge solutions are secure, observable, and production-ready
- Mentor engineers and help raise the technical bar across teams
Proven experience as an Edge/Cloud Architect/Developer — designing systems for distributed/edge computing environments
Strong hands-on expertise with Ansible (playbooks, roles, automation at scale)
Expert-level Python development skills
Deep, production-grade experience with Kubernetes (cluster design, operators, networking, security, troubleshooting)
Hands-on experience with Google Distributed Cloud (GDC) or comparable distributed cloud/edge platforms
Practical IoT experience (device management, connectivity protocols, telemetry/data pipelines)
Experience acting as a lead/principal architect, including running or contributing to architecture review processes
Experience with observability/monitoring tooling for distributed systems (Prometheus, Grafana, etc.)
Strong communication skills — able to work with distributed teams and represent architecture decisions to stakeholders
Ability to translate complex business, product, and infrastructure requirements into pragmatic technical designs, roadmaps, and implementation plans
Experience establishing engineering best practices for CI/CD, secure software delivery, infrastructure as code, observability, reliability, and operational excellence
