As an Advanced Mechanical CAD Engineer here at Honeywell Aerospace, you will be a key contributor and subject matter expert (SME), or a developing SME, in PTC Creo Parametric, Model-Based Definition (MBD), and engineering drafting. You will model complex aerospace hardware, including cast and machined parts, cable and harness assemblies, and printed board assemblies, and produce definition data that flows cleanly from CAD into PLM.
You will set the modeling and documentation standard for the mechanical team. That means applying ASME Y14.5, Y14.41, Y14.47, Y14.100 and related standards correctly, and helping peers do the same.
You will report directly to our Mechanical Engineering Design Manager and you’ll work out of our Clearwater, FL location, with a hybrid work option available after an initial 90-day period.
Responsibilities- Create robust, design-intent-driven 3D models and assemblies in PTC Creo Parametric for complex aerospace hardware.
- Model cast and machined parts, including draft, parting lines, machining allowances, and casting-to-machined family relationships.
- Design and document cable and harness assemblies using Creo Cabling, including routing, connector definition, and formboard or nailboard drawings.
- Develop printed board assembly (PBA) models through ECAD-MCAD collaboration, covering board outline, keep-outs, component placement, and mechanical interfaces.
- Author Model-Based Definition data per ASME Y14.41 and Y14.47, including semantic PMI, annotation planes, combination states, and model organization.
- Produce 2D engineering drawings where required, with correct GD&T per ASME Y14.5 and drawing practices per ASME Y14.100.
- Manage CAD data in PLM (e.g., Teamcenter), including check-in and check-out, lifecycle states, BOM structure, part numbering, and change management (ECR/ECO).
- Perform and support tolerance stack-up analysis to confirm fit, form, and function.
- Review models and drawings from peers and suppliers for standards compliance, manufacturability, and design intent.
- Develop and maintain CAD best practices and modeling guidelines; mentor engineers and designers.
- Work with manufacturing, quality, suppliers, and electrical and systems engineering to resolve design and producibility issues.
- Support the transition from drawing-based to model-based enterprise workflows.
YOU MUST HAVE
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in a technical discipline such as the sciences, technology, engineering or mathematics
- Minimum 5 years of hands-on experience in Creo Parametric modeling, MBD, and drafting of complex hardware (cast and machined parts, cable assemblies, printed board assemblies), including CAD-to-PLM integration; aerospace, defense, or other regulated industry preferred.
- Advanced proficiency in PTC Creo Parametric, including complex part modeling, top-down assembly design, skeletons, family tables, and parameters and relations.
- Demonstrated experience modeling cast and machined parts and designing cable assemblies.
- Working knowledge of printed board assembly design and ECAD-MCAD data exchange.
- Hands-on experience authoring MBD data and 2D engineering drawings.
- Strong working knowledge of GD&T and the ASME Y14 standards listed below.
- Experience with CAD-to-PLM integration, including BOM management and engineering change processes.
- Ability to obtain and maintain any required export-control or security eligibility.
- Clear written and verbal communication; able to explain standards and modeling decisions to engineers at all levels.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance.
WE VALUE
- Master's degree in a relevant engineering discipline.
- ASME GDTP certification (Technologist or Senior level).
- PTC Creo certification or equivalent demonstrated expertise.
- Experience with Teamcenter, Windchill, or other PLM.
- Experience with Creo Cabling and Creo ECAD-MCAD Collaboration (e.g., with Altium, Cadence, or Mentor).
- Experience with Model-Based Enterprise (MBE) initiatives, including supplier acceptance of MBD data.
- Familiarity with castings and machining processes.
- Experience developing CAD standards, templates, or training material.
- Experience with sensors, guidance, or navigation hardware.
