ABOUT THE ROLE:

As an Actuarial Analyst, you will contribute to Orion 180’s personal and commercial lines product expansion, rate development and reserve estimation for a rapidly growing insurance company. This high-visibility role offers direct interaction with Orion180’s executive team and external partners, giving you the opportunity to shape the company’s future. You’ll drive continuous improvement in pricing and reserving processes while applying innovative approaches to traditional actuarial challenges.


WHAT YOU’LL DO:

The Actuarial Analyst is responsible for assisting the actuarial team in the pricing, product development and reserving functions for the company. The position works collaboratively with the actuarial team and other cross functional business units to implement pricing and product enhancements designed to achieve growth and profitability goals in line with the company’s business model and enterprise objectives. This role also assists with quarterly reserves and financial reporting.

 

•           Support the actuarial function to achieve business objectives and performance goals.

•           Partner with portfolio managers to evaluate and manage financial results across Orion180’s product portfolio.

•           Assist in the development of pricing models, reserving methodologies, and analytical reports that drive data-driven decisions.

•           Participate in the design and development of next-generation pricing tools and internal models, including AI-based improvements to actuarial processes. Analyze external and internal claims and exposure data to enhance proprietary pricing factors and models.

•           Assist with building and validating predictive models (e.g., GLMs, GBMs, Random Forests, Neural Networks) for frequency/severity modeling, price optimization, and customer retention.

•           Support regulatory filings, reinsurance presentations, and audit documentation as needed.

•           Perform quarterly and ad-hoc reserve studies, including monthly tracking of reserve and claim development.

•           Collaborate with the Claims department to understand reserving and settlement practices and their impact on loss reserves and IBNR.

•           Communicate complex actuarial analyses and findings to non-technical stakeholders, including executives and other internal teams.


WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR:

Education:

•           Bachelor’s or advanced degree in Actuarial Science, Mathematics, Statistics, or a related field required.

•           Successful completion of at least one Casualty Actuarial Society (CAS) exam.

Experience:

•           Advanced data and statistical programming skills including SQL, R and Python, with strong proficiency in Excel.

•           Entrepreneurial mindset with the ability to work effectively in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.

•           Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, including the ability to make data-driven decisions with limited historical data.

•           Excellent organizational and time-management abilities with a proven ability to handle multiple priorities.

•           Collaborative and curious, eager to learn across actuarial, data science, and product functions.

•           Communication Skills: Strong interpersonal, collaborative, and presentation skills with the ability to communicate effectively, both written and verbal.

Preferred Experience:

•           Industry Experience: 1+ years of P&C actuarial experience preferred.

The office environment is fast-paced and collaborative.  An employee must be willing and able to work their regularly assigned work schedule onsite, and in times of need, be able to work an extended schedule depending on company or departmental needs, project requirements, or customer demands. 

 

While performing general duties for this position, the employee is regularly required to sit, stand, and/or walk around (including the use of stairs). Other demands include the ability to openly communicate with others by talking, listening, comprehending, and reading; being able to lift light objects (<25 lbs); and using standard office equipment such as computers, printers, and phones.  In addition, there is an occasional need to bend, twist, or squat down to open/close cabinets and reach for files or other standard office-type objects.
