Job Description:

Department Overview 

The GI Reinsurance department is responsible for ensuring insurance risk is appropriately mitigated by putting in place and manage the reinsurance structures, in line with TD Insurance's risk appetite. The team also evaluates actuarial reserves and the ultimate cost of catastrophic loss events and provides periodic financial reporting of reinsurancerelated results. 

Key Responsibilities 

  • Participate in execution of reinsurance's monthly financial reporting, including the monthly analysis and evaluation of amounts recoverable from reinsurers.  Work with corporate actuarial and finance on any issues that arise 

  • Participate in the annual reinsurance treaty and renewal process, planning and execution of Catastrophic Bonds, review reinsurance strategy, and coordinate communications with reinsurance brokers and TD Global Counterparty Credit 

  • Participate in the forecasting of losses as part of budget planning and periodic follow ups by coordinating timing of inputs and outputs with partners such as Corporate Actuarial, Pricing and Finance 

  • Develop and participate in projects or responses to ad-hoc requests (ex.: Climate change, risk accumulation, catastrophic scenarios, by peril analysis) 

  • Ensure maintenance of controls, policies, and procedures while rigorously applying governance principles, including SOX and EUC controls, audit requirements, and model validation processes 

  • Develop partnerships with the Claims department to deepen understanding of the claim lifecycle and to establish effective monitoring processes. 

  • Work independently with internal control partners, including Audit, E&Y, and Risk Management 

  • Contribute to the development of actuarial and analytical capabilities through mentorship, training session and coaching. 

  • Inform internal partners about reinsurance strategies, share knowledge and best practices, and support cross functional collaboration 

 

 

Requirements 

  • Undergraduate degree in actuarial science or another quantitative field 

  • Working toward designation of Casualty Actuarial Society (ACAS or FCAS) 

  • 5 years+ of relevant experience 

  • Strong computer and programming skills (Excel, VBA, R, Python) 

  • Role also requires a strong understanding of business strategies and behavior, finance and the (re)insurance industry 

  • Knowledge of financial and accounting concepts 

  • Client-oriented and superior communication skills 

  • Bilingual 

  • Known for the quality of his/her work product, strong attention to details and rigor 

  • Adapts quickly to new work environment 

  • Strong planning skills 

  • Analytical mindset, team spirit, innovative
