As our Accounting hire in Japan, you are the hands doing the work. You will own the day-to-day bookkeeping and transaction processing that keeps ai& Japan's finances clean, accurate, and close-ready every single month. You work directly alongside the Finance Controller — they own the close, you execute it. Every journal entry, every reconciliation, every invoice, every payroll run goes through you.

This is a pure execution role. You are meticulous, fast, and you do not let errors accumulate. You take pride in books that are always in order and a close that never slips because of something on your side. You will also be part of building the accounting infrastructure from scratch — setting up the systems, workflows, and processes that ai& Japan's finance function runs on.

• Transaction Processing Record and process all financial transactions accurately and on time. Accounts payable, accounts receivable, expense claims, bank transactions — everything gets entered correctly, every day.

• Monthly Close Execution Execute the monthly close working directly under the Finance Controller. Prepare and post journal entries, reconcile every balance sheet account, clear outstanding items, and have everything ready for Controller review on schedule. The close does not slip because of you.

• Accounts Payable & Receivable Own AP and AR end to end. Process vendor invoices, manage payment runs, track receivables, and ensure everything is reconciled and up to date at all times.

• Payroll Processing Run payroll for ai& Japan accurately and on time. Ensure compliance with Japanese tax and social insurance requirements. Coordinate with HR on employee changes and ensure payroll records are always current.

• Bank Reconciliation Reconcile bank accounts regularly. Identify and resolve discrepancies quickly. Maintain clean, accurate bank records across all entities and accounts.

• Expense Management Process and reconcile employee expense reports. Enforce the expense policy, ensure proper documentation, and keep expense records organized and audit-ready.

• Tax & Compliance Support Prepare the schedules and workpapers needed for tax filings and statutory reports. Work with external tax advisors and ensure all source data is accurate and on time.

• Systems & Process Setup Help set up and maintain the accounting systems, chart of accounts, and workflows that ai& Japan runs on. Keep the systems clean and organized as the business grows.

• Hands-On Bookkeeping Experience You have done the work yourself — transaction processing, journal entries, reconciliations, payroll. You are not supervising someone else doing it. You are doing it.

• Monthly Close Experience You have executed a monthly close, not just supported one. You know the sequence, you know the pressure, and you deliver clean numbers on time.

• Japan Accounting Knowledge Strong understanding of Japanese bookkeeping standards, tax requirements, and payroll compliance. You know the local rules and you apply them accurately.

• Accounting Software Proficiency Hands-on experience with Japanese accounting software. Freee, MoneyForward, or similar. You can set up and maintain accounts, not just enter data.

• Obsessive Accuracy You check your work. You reconcile regularly. You do not let small discrepancies sit. Clean books are a source of personal pride.

• Bilingual Fluency Professional fluency in Japanese and English is required.
