About Aplazo

Aplazo is Mexico’s leading “buy now, pay later” platform, giving consumers flexible, transparent payment solutions while helping merchants grow their sales. We’re a fast-growing Series B fintech backed by top global investors, combining technology, data, and design to redefine financial access.

Role's Mission

This role owns the company’s day-to-day accounting operations — accounts payable and vendor management, travel & expense (T&E), accounts receivable and collections, and the monthly close — under Mexican Financial Reporting Standards (NIF/MFRS). It also ensures the company meets its tax obligations with the Mexican authorities (in particular the Tax Administration Service, SAT) accurately and on time, coordinates internal and external audit processes, and proactively identifies control and compliance risks.

Key Responsibilities

A. Tax Compliance and Obligations

• Manage and file monthly tax returns with the SAT on time: VAT (IVA), income tax (ISR), electronic accounting, withholdings, and all other applicable tax obligations.

• Prepare and submit informational filings: DIOT, annual tax return, third-party transaction reports, and any other requirements under the Federal Tax Code (CFF).

• Supervise the proper calculation and recording of deferred taxes and their impact on financial

statements.

• Proactively identify fiscal compliance risks and propose corrective or preventive measures before they materialize.

• Maintain an up-to-date tax obligations calendar and ensure timely compliance.Serve as the company’s primary point of contact with the SAT in review processes, audits, formal requests, invitation letters, and on-site visits.

• Prepare and coordinate responses to tax authority requests, ensuring accurate documentation and adherence to legal deadlines.

• Manage the tax mailbox (buzón tributario) and promptly follow up on any official notifications or communications from the authority.

B. Audits and Internal Control

• Coordinate and support annual external audit processes, providing the required information and evidence in an organized and timely manner.

• Collaborate with the internal audit team in reviewing accounting and tax processes, addressing observations and resolving findings.

• Ensure that all departmental processes have documented controls aligned with best practices and current regulations.

C. Accounting Operations

• Own accounts payable end-to-end: vendor onboarding and master-data maintenance, invoice processing, payment runs, and reconciliation of the AP subledger.

• Manage the travel & expense (T&E) process — policy compliance, employee reimbursements, and corporate-card reconciliation.

• Oversee accounts receivable and collections: billing, cash application, aging monitoring, and follow-up on overdue balances.

• Own the month-end close calendar, ensuring timely reconciliation of bank, PSP, and intercompany accounts.

• Maintain and continuously improve process documentation and internal controls across the accounting-operations cycle.

D. Digital Transformation

• Actively participate in digitalization and process-improvement projects, including the optimization of ERP systems and accounting tools.
