Job Description

The Accounting Manager provides financial reporting and analysis to all business units and departments within The Ohio State University Health System. The position ensures the month and year end financial statement close schedule/process is maintained.

Working with the Accounting leadership, manages the day-to-day operations and business processes of an accounting team. Monitors proper recording of OSUP financial transactions, assets, liabilities, revenue, and expenses in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) and following Governmental Accounting Standards Board (GASB) guidance. Oversees the maintenance and reconciliation of general ledger accounts. Assists with month, quarter, and year end close activities. Implements process improvement activities in accounting business processes. Assists in development, training, and performance management of accounting team members.

This position manages the processes in the general ledger, maintenance of accurate and reconciled accounts, and for accurate financial reporting at a cost center and business unit level. The Manager supervises staff responsible for the reconciliation of accounts and is accountable for the overall accuracy of journal entries to ensure the general ledger is in accordance with accounting principles and reporting schedules so that the organization has a full and accurate statement of its financial position.

This position assists in strategic reporting as it relates to the Health System and Medical Center initiatives. The Manager performs as a subject matter expert when identified as a resource required for projects and strategic requests and acts as key a resource for financial and operational management, product line committees, operational improvement teams, and strategic initiatives.

This position is responsible for accounting projects involving high business risk, scope and impact to the organization. This position is recognized across the organization for expertise and sought as a source for resolution of unique or the most complex financial problems.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field required; advanced degree and CPA strongly preferred. Minimum of five years of accounting experience, preferably in a healthcare environment. Strong knowledge of accounting principles, financial analysis, budgeting, forecasting, and regulatory requirements. Demonstrated leadership experience, proficiency with spreadsheets and project management software, understanding of industry trends, and application of lean or continuous improvement principles.

Skills Required
